Okay, for just getting by in casual wear, Target's got some great finds and so does Old Navy. Search online for a better selection than what you'll find in stores. I've bought several pairs of maternity jeans but the ones I wear nearly all the time are skinny jeans I found at ON. Every other store seems to be under the weird impression that boot cut and bell bottoms are ideal for a pregnant silhouette. NOT TRUE. Maybe it's my short height and the fact that my ass grew along with my belly, but wide-legged pants look a little schlubby. JMO.
I think the online-is-better-than-store rule also works for the Motherhood/Destination Maternity conglomerate, but if you want to go up a level in style and don't mind spending a little (or a lot) more for something you'll only wear for a season, I can recommend: SierraLane.com JapaneseWeekend.com DueMaternity.com Figure8Maternity.com IsabellaOliver.com Nordstrom.com is also good, though a little bland for the prices they're charging, unless you're looking for a special ocassion. Head straight to sale items. Zappos is also worth a look for their speedy delivery and hassle-free return policy. (Motherhood/Destination make returns difficult) |

Can anyone recommend a brand of maternity jeans that they loved?
So tempted to buy Citizens of Humanity maternity jeans. I bought my first Citizens jeans about 6 years ago and I still wear them (well, not at the moment). Best jeans ever. I cannot decide if $180 is too much to spend on a pair of maternity jeans or if it is reasonable if I will love them all the time since jeans are so versatile. Thanks. |
| You know, I really wanted to love my Citizens. I still have them and plan on wearing them for this pregnancy (#2), and this just might be my personal issue because of my height, but the panel didn't hit me right. I'm 5'2. The panel starts too high on the belly--it should start closer to your crotch. This results in a pinching. They aren't too small elsewhere. Another panel issue: elastic holds it up at the top. Not exactly flattering. If I had to do it all over again, I'd find a designer jean that had the secret fit belly in it. I bought a pair of buffalo brand khaki type pants with that panel and I swear I could have slept in them and they were so flattering on my petite frame. |
| i made do with a lot of regular clothes in larger sizes. i find that maternity clothes are built like tents and make you look larger than you are. the only exception is i bought pants and skirts with maternity bands. otherwise i went to target, h&m, etc and just purchased shirts in larger sizes. regular cardigans are your best friends if you are pregnant in the winter. |
Thank you. This is really helpful. I am also petite... 5'4". I wish Nordstrom sold these jeans in-store. |
| I buy Liz Lange maternity shirts at Target and pants on eBay for expensive brands like Pea in the Pod and Japanese Weekend. It works well. |
| Target, Old Navy and Gap for basics and cute fun stuff. I also did motherhood for basic stuff like tshirts. I looked at mimi maternity at macys and pea in the pod (pentagon City) for a little more expensive stuff. I found Appleseed to be cute but very expensive. I found that once I knew my size of various brands I wen to n ebay and found some stuff cheaper |
RE: designer jeans -- I bought several pairs (7 for all mankind, Citizens, and Paige). Be careful with the panel -- unfortunately, the Paige jeans (and other designer jeans from Nordstrom) have a panel that is extremely uncomfortable. The top of it has a very tight elastic band that compresses and HURTS! I couldn't wear them by 24 weeks - what a disappointment. It's obvious that they were designed by a woman who has never been pregnant. I'd suggest buying designer jeans from A Pea in the Pod/Mimi Maternity -- I was able to try on and buy my 7 for all mankind and Citizens jeans there. They had them in stock so I could try on different sizes. I think it's definitely worth it -- you will wear them almost every day (different from non-maternity because you don't have as big of a variety of clothes -- so you will DEFINITELY get your moneys' worth), and you can sell them on Ebay when you're done.
As far as stylish clothes, I agree that it's sooo hard to find cute things, and I also ran screaming from Motherhood and refused to even buy a t-shirt there. I found a few cute tops at A Pea in the Pod, but most of their stuff isn't really my style. I love, love, love anthropologie and wish they had maternity stuff. I bought a lot of long cardigans there and wore them over maternity t-shirts or tanks from A Pea in the Pod or Gap. I shopped a lot online from gap.com (not usually my style -- I don't like such plain clothes, but their stuff is okay... the quality of their sweaters is kind of sub-par though), and nordstrom.com -- they have a great online maternity section. I went to Appleseed and was disappointed. They had great jeans/pants but I didn't like their tops/sweaters very much... just not my style; too old looking. Good luck!! |
I have a few pairs of Joe's jeans that I LOVE. The panel is really comfortable. |
| Yes. I had Citizens and never liked them. Got a pair of Joe's and LOVE them. |
