The pandemic sucks — DS’s friend is coming back to school, but in a different room

This is not a major issue. My son is now 11. Things like this happened all the time, even before the pandemic. Your child will make new friends, he is 4.

Accelerated program for a 4 year old? What are you smoking?

We didn’t request it. The school offers it.

No of course not. It’s just a couple more activities.

We could request a change, but DS is being placed in an accelerated program (at the recommendation of the school) that we think would be good for him.
Apparently his friend has been talking about DS all summer. DS has made some new friends, as young kids do, but I’m sure will be upset to find out his friend is in a different room.

Just wanted to say this sucks. I’m sure they both would have been in the same room without COVID, but my guess is the school is placing his friend in the regular program, solely because he hasn’t been at the school for months and so they can’t evaluate him to see where he is.

time for DS to leave the dumb dumb behind and move forward- college applications are only 14 years away, now is not the time for sentimentality

OP the pandemic has caused a lot of problems, large and small, but this is not one of them.

Dp. I think this is inappropriate to start singling out your kid from other kids. Dont you think all kids given access to special programs would benefit?

Uh.
Kids regularly don’t get to be in classes with their friends.
This will happen to your son every year.

Again, wasn’t something we pushed. The school offers it. We could turn it out, but that would mean not giving our kid access to some extra activities she’d enjoy. Us turning it down won’t change the fact that not all kids are going to be doing this program.

“Out” should be “down.” We got a letter saying our kid was recommended for it. We didn’t do a thing.

You assume they would have been placed together, but you don't actually know that. This is a thing that is going to happen throughout his school career, unless you go to really small schools that have only one class per grade.

Lol what if the friend's parents requested a different room to get away from OP?

Considering the friend reached out to me and asked what room we’re in and then, when I told her, she said she was extremely disappointed, I doubt it.

Get over it. It's rediculous you even posted this. Kids change classes every year in school.
