Would she consider doing some SAT prep and retaking them? Is the 3.9 weighted?

With virtually all top-100 privates test-optional, a 3.9 with a rigorous transcript puts anything on the table for possible additions to the reach category. Plenty of mid-size privates to consider, if they might be affordable. Plenty of matches outside the top 50 even submitting the score.

For UMD, 25th-75th percentiles for enrolled students is 1290-1460 per Common Data Set; 1350 would fit just fine. (The admission website lists the 25th-75th percentiles for admitted students as 1330-1470, rather misleading considering the enrolled numbers.) Wouldn't major play a role for UMD?

She wants umd. But with her SAT score it seems a reach. Know a few kids who got rejected with 1400 SAT score but lower gpa

Yes would consider privates . About 9 AP classes

Does she know what she wants to study or would she apply undecided? Can you afford full pay or do you need aid? What size(s) and geographic preferences?? Nowhere is off the table. (Even if UMD is a reach, still encourage her to apply - seems more like a low reach/high match)

Geographically.. VA, MD, PA would be preferable. Will be full pay.
Major is probably undecided but something in science maybe public health

She is prepping but not sure if she will improve or of she will be able to retake the SAT given the coronavirus shutdown

More low reaches/high matches: Villanova, Lehigh, Lafayette, U Richmond, Bucknell, American

Safety: Loyola Maryland

I know someone studying public health at Muhlenberg.

Isn’t UMD rest optional? I don’t submit the SAT scores!

Lehigh and Lafayette seem difficult to get into. Acceptance rate is 22-29%

DD WL then rejected from Lafayette this past spring with 3.9 UW and 1310 sat (probably inflated but nothing we can do now Not full pay and did regular decision, and obviously a 1350 is higher than 1310.

Go test optional! UMD isn’t requiring scores. You are welcome.

Yes, they can be. That's what puts them in the low reach/high match category

NP. 1350 is probably just under the 50th percentile. I would probably submit, though applying test-optional is also a reasonable way to go for OP.

+1

Most schools don't require scores this year - take advantage of that and skip the test.

People out here acting like 1350 is some poor score. Come on people, pull yourselves together. From Maryland's own stats:

the middle 50% of SAT scores ranged from 1330 to 1470

Submit that 1350. In combination with the 3.9 unweighted, this is a great candidate.

I think a private counselor would tell you to submit anything over a 1300. This is a weird year, but, I too think a 1350 is a great score. Even if she doesn't get a straight admit, I would think it puts her in freshman connection range.
