What gift amount for Bat-Mitzvah for classmate?

Same for my DS. My DD’s Bat Mitzvah is in a few weeks. I assume it will be the same for her.

Yes, a check is fine. Gift cards are nice, too. My daughter got $18, $25, $36, and $54 gifts. I'd say $36 was the most common. We are not in the DC metro.

$36 for our Big-3 was most common. For good friends, it was $54 and a present.

I would be pretty uncomfortable if my daughter received this much from a school or temple friend. Good friend, family, family friend, ok, but from someone who’s not a close friend, this feels like too much.
