Left lane on BW Parkway

I don’t care who in which lane. You don’t tailgate. When I’m tailgated I slow down. The other driver gets the point- backs up & I happily move along.
I don’t respond to poor behavior

You are so annoying. Move TF over!

Maryland drivers either:

1) drive like they have a death with in the left lane
2) cruise 5 miles under the limit in the left lane, with their blinker on for miles and miles and miles

There is no in between with them, both with regards to speed, or appropriate use of the blinker - it's all or nothing.

So true. I learned to drive in Maryland but have lived in the midwest. Their you learn to move out of the passing lane. Passing on the right and cars not moving our of the way is so inefficient. OP, you have an obligation to move as soon as you get the opportunity.

Have any of you ever actually driven on the BW Parkway? If everyone stayed in the right lane and reserved the left lane for "passing only" it would be ridiculous. We would all still be on the right lane of the BW Parkway sitting in stand-still traffic while the left lane stayed blissfully empty waiting for someone to decide "Hey, maybe I'll pass the car in front of me and then duck back into this endless line of cars."

Consider me "passing" every car on the parkway at exactly 1 MPH more than whatever speed the right lane is going.

LOL.

this perfectly embodies the "anyone slower than me is a grandma/day laborer, anyone faster than me is a maniac" attitude in this country. bravo. honestly cannot tell if you're serious or just satirizing the people who stay parked in the left lane.

If it's heavy or stop-and-go traffic that's a different story. If you're mozying along in the left lane with ample space in front and to your right, it's not hard, just move over.

I have this argument with my DH all the time. He gets in the middle or left lane and just sits there. If he is passing cars on the left, fine, keep going on the left. But if there are no cars in the right lane move to the right. I want to keep a sign in my car that says "Move Right" that I can hold up when I pass people who fail to follow this basic driving rule.

Virginia is one of those states, and supposedly they’re starting to enforce it. Not sure about Maryland.

Also, if people followed the stay right rule there wouldn't be as many accidents or back ups. Nothing is worse than a slow poke car in the left lane backing traffic up. It's often 1 car backing up 20. Staying to the right makes highways way more efficient.

I was driving on the BW Parkway today (speed limit 55), doing almost 70 in the left lane when suddenly this truck comes out of nowhere and starts riding my tail, flipping me off. When I could I got into the right lane to let him pass and give me more of the bird.

I know the left lane is for passing but is it only for passing - meaning no cruising ever in the left lane? I guess the parkway trips me up because the speed limit is low, there's always traffic and always cars in both lanes. It's not like a rural road where it's easy to stay in the right lane and keep the left lane for passing.

Also a former Angelinos here, yep left for passing only. Don't be a Marylander please.

Have you seen Marylanders driving on GW Parkway? If so, you know the answer.

This. Technically, yes, the left lane is a passing lane but the volume of traffic on the BW Pkwy makes it impossible for the left lane to be used this way.
