I can afford it too, but that doesn't make it a good idea. I feel sorry for your kids who are subjected to your obsessive ideals.

Well... honestly, between strangers, were you going for a 4th for the opposite sex? If so, no one would judge that. I know several moms who have 3 boys and I assume they all went for the third to try to get a girl. No shame in that game - I would probably do the same.

I actually have 5 and it’s great! Congrats to you!

I have two boys and a girl. We decided we wanted a third because we wanted another child, not because we wanted a girl. I could not have cared less if we had another boy, and got very tired of people assuming we only went for a third child so that we could have a girl. I am always afraid it will make our middle child, who is very sensitive, feel like we didn't want him, or he was a mistake.

I would never have another kid because I was concerned about what others thought.

But I will say having moved from a community in Florida where many families had 3-4 kids to the west coast where people had 2 kids provided many jokes. Fielding a baseball team? Growing your own army? Hahaha ho ho ho.

Why are people reading the post this way?

I read it that way too.

I read “my first thought” as “my oldest child thought.” When I re-read it, it doesn’t make any sense to read it that way, but my brain went there for whatever reason.

Make the joke that "well, obviously, the girl was an accident." Then watch to see if the other person squirms...

Enjoy!

Ha! I have one girl and 2 boys and I REALLY want another girl.

I have a friend who was child number 5, with number 4 being about six or seven years older. Her mom felt bad that she wouldn’t have a close in age sibling, so they had another 18 months later!

To be fair, those two sisters grew up very close and have stayed close as adults.

OP, we have three boys, all very close in age, then a girl who is five years younger. My own kids wonder whether the 4th is an accident or whether we were trying for a girl! We weren’t, we just took a while to decide we wanted a 4th.
