Ok...I'm headed to my gym...

OP here. I'm back.

I went in. I lifted. I left.

It was nearly empty. The staff answered my questions (and remembered my name and were glad to see me). The cleaning protocol was clear, and it seemed people were following it. I sure did. I cleaned everything I touched before and after. Everyone was masked, everyone was respecting space. It was definitely less iffy today than the grocery store has been.

I'm sure later I'll have a "what-have-I-done" moment.

Once I had to pay the bill whether or not I went, I got over the initial hump. And, it didn't take long to get back to heavy lifting, though I am not yet at my top form. Long story, but a crisis before Christmas reduced my precovid gym time and I didn't go into Covid in my best form.

Do it. You've got this. One foot in front of the other. And, don't be stupid and hurt yourself.

OP again. Yes! Thank you for the reminder. Starting carefully.

OP one more time. I stripped into the wash when I got home after washing my hands, mask and lifting gloves included, and showered. I wiped down/sprayed down my shoes, collars, and phone. Feeling more or less ok about this. On par with the grocery store. If it had been busier, i don't think I would have stayed.

Wtf are you “taking yourself through the anxiety”? Going to a gym right now is a really stupid thing to do. You could very well catch covid. Listen to your anxiety. It is telling you something - that you should not go inside a gym right now.

Still alive, healthy, and covid free.

That’s because of luck not because it’s safe

And for all you know you could have gotten it asymptomatically and spread it to someone else

Yeah. That was a dumb thing to do. Is going to the gym really worth catching covid?

Gee thanks for chiming in now.

For some people, yes it is. Health officers have allowed gyms to open with certain precautions taken. The OP is taking even more precautions - even more than many people do when going to the grocery store.

You may not want to go to the gym, and obviously think doing so is "dumb" because of the perceived risk, but the OP desired to go. OP wasn't being irresponsible.

OP again. Listen, if I didn't want to hear some folks tell me this was a terrible idea, I wouldn't have posted. I genuinely appreciate that. I also appreciate those of you telling me it's probably lowish risk.

It’s not health officials driving that decision. It’s political pressure from owners and lobbyists of gyms.

Don’t listen to them, they are stupid.

I’m one of the ones who posted you shouldn’t go. I wouldn’t spend the next fourteen days obsessively worrying you caught covid this morning, but I also wouldn’t go back. There is a lot of stuff open because of political and economic pressure, not because it’s safe. Like eating indoors at a restaurant. That’s not because doctors and health officials think it’s safe. That’s because the economic and political pressure to open them is tremendous. Same for gyms.

I feel certain you don’t own, or ever ride in, a car. Dumb to take that risk!

Oh yes, the well-known mighty political power of... the gym lobby.

You spend lots of money on gym membership. Why not invest that into home setup?
