The app doesn't compare to the bike. |
Bumping this thread. Does anyone have feedback on a Tonal machine? |
Have had it over a year and still love it. Also have a peloton, and love that too but if I had to choose just one I’d go with tonal. |
Bumping to see if anyone has feedback on the Tonal machine. We are moving and will finally have room for one.
Looking to tone up and get strength back after gaining some COVID weight. Is it worth the price tag? Not interested in a Peleton. |
I think it is amazing. Have had mine for nearly 2 years. Happy to answer any questions, but also recommend the various Tonal facebook groups, where you'll get lots of info. |
+1 I generally like Peloton for running, meditation, and yoga (I use the app and don't have a bike), but their strength classes are really basic, even when they're at the "advanced" level. Barry's has really great weights classes, but they're not on demand, but will be in a few weeks. |
Tempo and Nordicktrack Si22 were my choices after an in depth research |
Peloton bike plus full membership is an absolutely addictive cult, which is exactly what I need in an exercise program. I'm 9 months in with mine, and I haven't missed more than one day in the entire time. Moreover, I have done at least 2 bike rides, 2 strength classes and a meditation every week, with some weeks much (including guided outdoor running) more due to the random challenges and programs they are often presenting. For me, that is a huge win! |
I've had my tonal since December 2020 and I can't say enough good things about it. I'm 49 and have been lifting weights a long time, but never with consistency and with the approach that Tonal takes, which is basically to do four weeks of the same movements (3 or 4 days a week, with a different set of moves on each of those days) so you can track your progress. It sounds cheesy and like I'm marketing for them, but it truly does feel like having a personal trainer in your house. I already had a peloton bike before getting the tonal, and my kids like to use it but I have to force myself now to get on the peloton b/c I prefer to spend my workout time on the tonal. HTH! |
I have both.
I really, really like each of them. While it would be hard to choose between the two, I think it would be hard to give up the engagement I get from Peloton. To me there would be a path to using the Peloton strength classes, buying some weights and maybe TRX and getting the best of both. Don't get me wrong, Tonal is awesome in every way. I just think that the backup plan for replacing Pelo falls much shorter than the backup plan to replace the Tonal, since you are making me choose. |
Are you the same pp as at the beginning of this thread a year ago who loves her Tonal, or a different one? |
Bumping this thread again. New poster and I just tried the tonal this week. Been hesitated between peloton and tonal for a while. I think I am going to go with tonal. DH is interested too. And I will get a more basic nordic track treadmill… The other workouts of tonal (barre, Pilates etc..) are unfortunately not as good as peloton right now (the library is much more limited and, a detail, the backgrounds are ugly neon colors). But the machine and the AI just seem awesome. We tried all the different options/ movements. And I am really hoping that the tonal can get me into strength training (I am the type with 15 pounds pink dumbellls for the moment..). |
Message got caught off: I am sure my DH will get great use from Tonal. But asking for feedback from other beginners who got Tonal: did it help you access strength training?
I am a 42 y old mom in decent shape, barre/Pilates and easy jogs were my thing. But I really want to transform my workouts and my body in the coming decade. Be stronger and more toned. The programs, workouts, statistics seem very motivated (and I am good at getting into routines and programs). So as fellow beginners: can you share how it made you progress? |
