How can I make the room mom happy?

It's a private school. We already don't fit in, so I can't make a scene about not wanting to do it.

Do you not fit in because you make light of PTSD?

What? I've mentioned the reason here before. We don't fit in because we're poor and not the country club set.

Excuse me? You are not their slave. Do not accept risky jobs, OP. Why on earth are you sending your kids to private if it's to enable foolishness like this? Might as well have stayed in public!

Just say no. Stop trying so desperately to fit in. Nobody likes that.

Listen OP, you're worried about something that is 8 months away and that might not happen.

Check back with us in March

OP- are you the mom that had a ton of anxiety surrounding drop off because you also had a standing business call at that time and wouldn’t ask for some flexibility or take any of the other reasonable suggestions from posters?

The room moms are never happy. Don't try. Just say no if you want to say no.

Np: I think she’s the mom who has PTSD from past sexual assault, which caused the stress of wearing a mask.

To the PP who insinuated it wasn’t real PTSD, you don’t know what others have been through and should keep your mouth shut.

I don't understand what's risky?

Not wearing a mask. Seeing others wear one. I'm working on the issue, but it caught me so off guard that it really sent me into a spiral. Lockdown and no masks was much better.

Why do you care about making the room mom happy?

This. I mean, OP, if you are suffering from PTSD, why is making a room mom happy on your list of concerns right now?

There is no reason NOT to have a party if kids are in school (I don't agree with kids being in school but I don't get the party hate). OP, you don't have to attend but don't blame COVID if you are out socializing, living your every day life and willing to send your kids back to school as you will get it from your kids if they catch it at school.

Just offer to buy but say you'd prefer not to coordinate it at school. Get a large costco cake, pizza, drinks, and some fresh fruit (Strawberries and Grapes), dollar tree decorations (table cloths, plates, cups, etc) and done. Kids don't need tons of food. Pizza Hut and other places often have $5 pizza with delivery. 1-2 slices for little kids and 2-3 for bigger kids.
