On todays press conference Gayles stated they were going to reconsider the classification of soccer due to community feedback.

He is unbelievable.

They should at least be able to have practices with drills, even if they can't play games!

Cool. Noteworthy that lacrosse is also “high risk” in that NCAA document but not in the MoCo one.

Please.. just follow the money.

Enough said.

Was this before or after the executive order?

Soccer was, also, classified as 'high risk' in Massachusetts, but soccer families petitioned and got it reclassified as 'medium risk'.
It could be done here as well, but people would have to do more than complain on an anonymous forum.

Was that what led to it being classified risk OR was that after and hope that it will go back to being medium risk?

He said it today after the executive order passed when questioned about it. They may possibly reclassify it as medium or maybe allow some type of scrimmage/game. But “no promises”.

Bingo. Baseball and lax have been playing tournaments all July 'cause, you know, they are just medium risk sports. Indoor volleyball is also medium risk 'cause, you know, what could go wrong when your spending an hour+ in an indoor gym in close proximity to others?

Why soccer, and not those other sports, was re-categorized from medium risk to high risk for youth sports has zippy to do with science.

Um because look who made up the committee that helped make these guidelines, two of them are big players in the travel lax game...there was NO way they were letting lax sit any seasons out.

Anonymous wrote:I don't see how they rationalize putting soccer with football and wrestling in high risk and banning it while keeping lacrosse in medium risk. And in contradiction of the state guidelines. Why are they targeting soccer? Is it because it is played by more Latinos?

MoCo politics targeting Latinos? On most things, MoCo is very attuned to and focused on the interests of the Latino community.

Practices are fine, assuming distancing.

That's not accurate. "[N]o contact skills-building and drills" are permitted, but not play: "scrimmages, games, matches, and competitions are prohibited." --So fitness training, individual footwork, juggling, shooting, and maybe even distance passing are probably okay. Which is something. But that still excludes any sort of small-sided play that any well-rounded practice session is gonna involve. And that's gonna grow really tiresome, really quickly for most kids, especially younger ones.

Seriously, this virus will wax and wane for the next few years with likely opening and closing continuing. Our kids in moco will be the last to return to play.

If this it isn't categorized as medium risk now while they're debating, it won't get changed later.

The time is really now for this to be done.
