Moments of "unbondedness" with newborn?

I agree with the PP who said it sounds like PPD. I felt this way with my child and I had horrible PPD/PPA. OP, please take care of your self and beware of other symptoms you have.

Totally normal. My second was an easy, fat, happy baby. I just didn’t love him as much or feel as bonded. It took a few months. I’m madly in love with him now. Not everything happens on day 1 and that’s ok

Your hormones start to tank around 6 weeks. Totally normal.

I didn’t feel bonded with my first at all for a long time. With my second it was instant love...until 3-6 weeks later when I was beyond exhausted and my hormones tanked like PP said. I’m smitten with both now though!

Totally normal. The newborn phase is hard.

He'll start smiling at you soon, and then you will be sunk again, in a good way.

I found that right at the point that the blob of a baby was starting to drive me to annoyance, they'd do something adorable like hold my finger and coo. Or smile when you say good morning. 6 weeks is the tipping point for more interaction. Still mainly a blob for awhile, but 6 months+ you get some more adorable happy times that will generally be reserved and BEST for mama.

Just wait. Your kid is going to irritate you A LOT. haha

Not the OP but similar question. When do you start feeling a constant bond?

I didn't really feel it until my babies could interact more. The love grew for me, though I always felt a primal need to protect. My kids are now 7,6, and 2 and I love them more than anything in the world. But newborns kind of suck.
