The school buildings should be open when school starts, at least in FCPS. They can have DL and still allow juniors to come in and test. Since they use different forms, and am and a pm cohort allows for social distancing. A class of 500 can hav2 e 2 groups of 250, or 10 kids each in 25 classrooms. The test itself is less than three hours start to finish. Wear masks and allow a 15 minute outside mask break halfway through. It’s a lot easier to do safely than any of the hybrid plans, because many fewer kids and much less time indoors. |
| There are certainly ways that schools could pull it off by thinking creatively. My bet is that most of them won't spend the energy trying to figure it out. So many far-reaching effects on the young are a mere afterthought at best. |
MCPS has cancelled its august 29 SAT. Is FCPS or DCPS hosting August? I would not anticipate having any of the local publics as an option for in-school testing this year. |
| Fcps just sent an email saying they might do in school day SAT for seniors sept 23. |

None of these standardized tests should be that hard to administer—they just have to spend the money to get it done. Run the tests every weekend for a few months in each area and hire enough proctors to distance kids 4 to a room in large high schools that have 50 or 100 rooms. Done.
If the SAT ACT PSAT were thinking they’d invest the money this year and take the loss to avoid becoming obsolete going forward. |
| My kid’s MCPS high school already has groups of 25 kids take the PSAT in each classroom (as opposed to the auditorium). They should just switch it to ten and not host a practice PSAT for freshmen and sophomores. |
| Any thoughts on what they will do for 8th graders to take the PSAT for high school placement? DC is scheduled to begin reviewing the materials, but I don't want to start if the test isn't happening. |
Same boat. We really need to PSAT available for our 9th grader this year. |
If the high school relied on PSAT (PSAT 8/9?) scores for class placement, and it isn't held, wouldn't they need to consider other factors instead? You two can't be the only ones in that situation. |
Our private already cancelled PSAT for the junior class this year. I’m sure others will follow. |
| Several FCPS schools are offering the SAT on 8/29. All FCPS schools are offering the SAT to all Seniors on 9/23, during the school day, and at no cost. It was just announced that all FCPS schools will administer that PSAT to Juniors in October. |
Our is planning to give it. They could literally have one student per room with 1:1 proctors if they needed to. |
That is ripe for cheating. I wouldn’t expect anything different from private schools though |
| Bumping this because I am wondering if anyone has news now that we are in the second half of September. |
| Our PSAT has been moved to January |
