That said, we are hoping that the covid experience allows for more telework flexibility going forward. And good schools with a healthy contingent of college-bound kids are a big priority for us. Good to know about the mix of families. The Trumpsters might be hard to bear and would definitely be a change for our family. If you have family-friendly neighborhoods to recommend I'd love to hear about them. Just driving around right now it is difficult to get a sense, especially without the normal restaurant activity etc.

Not sure what your budget is but South River Colony is in the Central ES/Central Middle/South River pyramid. Great neighborhood with golf, tennis, pools, woods. Tons of kids everywhere!

Have you looked at Davidsonville? It's a wonderful, family friendly town with a decent elementary school (Davidsonville Elementary). It feeds into Central Middle and South River. Harbor Hills is a great neighborhood to consider - very family friendly with a pool and marina.

The Odenton, Gambrill and Crofton area has excellent schools.

Move into the zone for Annapolis high school. Ethnically diverse with college-bound children.

In addition to South River and Severna Park, you should consider the Broadneck High School feeder zone too. Those are generally the three considered "the best"

As a PP said, though, don't be scared by Annapolis high school! It's really diverse, and the high achieving kids there are amazing and going to the best schools in the country. (It's also home to the IB magnet)

We are in the same boat. Moving from DC to Davidsonville. Not a lot on the market right now but we are interested in Harbor Hills, Eagles Passages and Ashland neighborhoods. Good luck OP!

How old are your kids? Ashley has nice homes, but Harbor Hills and Eagles are much more family friendly. If you have younger kids in elementary school, I would focus on those neighborhoods. Ashley has more older kids and much less of a "neighborhood" vibe.

We, too, are looking in Davidsonville. Love Harbor Hills, and there are a couple of nice houses on the market now. How much do the kids in the neighborhood get together to play, versus staying inside/going to other neighborhoods? The ideal is that the kids can just go outside or to friends houses nearby without having the parents have to arrange much of anything.

If I were doing it now, I’d pick Crofton.

We went and looked at the 1.1m house and saw a flock of kids riding on a golf cart and riding bikes (maybe 5-7kids) so it seems like they definitely hang out inside the neighborhood. I’m sure your kids will have friends outside the neighborhood too but it seems like they’re also doing what you’re looking for...

(The 1.1 is lovely but not for us).

South River does too.

I live out here but I use a private school for my biracial kids. Things out here are getting better and more liberal all the time. Some sweet high schoolers set up a tiny BLM protest on Riva Rd and were received positively. But if I had a 14 yr old black or biracial child off to school this fall I wouldn’t use either high school.

Broadneck isn’t zoned for commutable areas. If it were we’d be there!!

Thanks. That looks like a really nice house, and I'm intrigued. What about it did not work for you? Maybe I should take this to the real estate forum....

"Commutable" is a very subjective term. I have several neighbors who commute into DC. They typically carpool or take the commuter buses and shift hours so they leave early.
Certainly Fridays in the summer is a nightmare. DH and I both were able to negotiate working from home those days (in the before-times, obviously)
It's certainly no worse than Severna Park. Anything east of the Severn River has to deal with nightmare beach traffic.

Harbor Hills is very kid friendly and all of the kids all ride their bikes to friends homes and also to the community pool in the summer. And the parents are VERY social as well. In normal times, there are Friday night BBQs at the Clubhouse and the neighborhood organizes lots of events for the kids. Eagles Passages has a similar vibe as well.

Agree--I don't think Severna Park is commutable either.
