Colleges don’t want to have to deal with all the crap when they have to shut down again.

They also want to be able to quickly move you to another room if be.

Since the odds are not negligible that your kid will end up having to clear out of there rapidly, 2 suitcases is a good limit.

use those Ikea FRAKTA bags. There's nowhere to store a suitcase in a dorm, and these weigh a ton less.

I was a poor kid when I went to college. I had barely anything. Simple bedding. About a suitcase of clothing. I borrowed clothing a lot from other girls in my dorm. The life changers were a climate appropriate coat (which I got in mid-Nov freshman year) and a computer (which I got senior year). Everything else would have been fluff or a distraction.

When my oldest left for college. We bought her everything she wanted. Midway though the first semester, some of it had never been used. At the end of the year, many things were donated.

Living in an apartment off campus is different, but the dorm rooms are fine even if simple. Don’t get swept up into Instagram and Pinterest fantasies of Princess rooms.

This.

2 large suitcases and a carry on is plenty. That's what most international students and students from far away bring because of luggage restrictions on flights.

Anything else you need can be ordered online or purchased later.

My daughter told me that she wore less than half of what she brought. The first two times she came home she brought a bag full of clothes to dump in her childhood room.

I immigrated to the US with one suitcase when I was in high school. I went away to university 4 years later with two laundry baskets full of stuff. Your child will be fine.

I would want the suitcase for storage. ..taking the places of the plastic bins that are typically used. Those Ikea bags are great but not if you are looking item to 2 bags. Also since I am guessing the limitation means student will need to self transport bags, I would want wheels.

They don’t need bedding?

My oldest used how topped and twin sheets 1 year and I plan to bring them. We already have comforters and bath towels ... why would I buy more?
