Hiring private tutors because distance learning is garbage

I can teach your teenage kids to do your taxes for $100/hour. Outside.

And they say distance learning won’t leave the poor behind. Ha!

So, you are not afraid of getting covid going to several people's houses and sitting there for hours breathing ??????

Hmmmm

Not very many people in DC have COVID. Look at the statistics.

This is why school should be in session. The poor don't have a chance.

+1000

The poor will be hurt the most by “distance learning”.

The rich will hire tutors to make sure their kids don’t fall behind where they should be.

It’s hard to think of a policy that will hurt the poor more than schools not being in session. Good job DC! Good job teachers’ unions!

Tutors will be raking it in this fall.

I'm a full-time professional tutor, and I've been doing sessions 100% remotely. It's not safe to go house-to-house tutoring kids these days.

NP. Would you consider backyard or front porch tutoring? If not you, do you think there are tutors out there that would? I agree indoors isn't very safe these days, but would love to find an outdoor tutor.

I would do it. What do you want tutored?

How many kids total will you work with? That's a lot of contagion unless you are virtual, in which case it will be tough to get 50 an hour,

I really don't think it would be hard for a certified teacher to get $50 an hour doing zoom tutoring.

We have a teacher doing virtual tutoring for $65/hour. I was skeptical about virtual but it’s going pretty well.

How did you find the tutor? I’m considering doing this.

I’m the PP who advertises on TutorFuse. I also get clients from word of mouth.

My kids have been taking the DCPS summer programs this year, and they've been remarkably good, at least for my kids.

Always a teacher basher. You all are disgusting pigs.

Try your neighborhood listserv. $70-100 per hour for a certified teacher, less for a college student without teaching experience.

If you do virtual and look for someone from other states you’ll find a tutor who charges $25-$50/hr

Please. Teachers have behaved shamefully in all of this. Teachers have been the exact opposite of profiles in courage.

What did you think was going to happen? Wealthy families will hire replacements for teachers who refuse to work. Poor people — not so much!
