You either need to get a covid test within 72 hours of trip or self quarantine for 14 days. Supposed to be enforced by Hotel, VRBO, etc |
Not on the fastest route. |
| Portland |
Get to Camden and you're more or less there. We're stopping for a night or two in the Hudson Valley. It might add an hour of driving, but some cute towns, awesome breweries, and good hikes await. |
Their current new case rate is lower than Maine. They're no longer a hotspot. How many people died there in April and May is sad, but irrelevant to their current status. |
Someone hasn't done their homework. |
Out of the way. |
Not if you take coastal route up rather than 95 to Bangor. If you’re driving from DC, makes more sense to stop in MA. That way you have one ~8hr day & one ~5hr day of driving. |
| We have kids and got a cheap hotel room in New Hampshire near Hampton beach state park. Very few mask wearers but we wore ours, if you are on the beach you can socially distance. |
| We've done the drive in one shot multiple times. Leave at 4 in the morning, make your first stop for breakfast when the kids wake up and get antsy. Next stop lunch, ice cream if they get antsy again, arrive in MDI in time for lobster dinner. |
We also drive in one shot from near Belvoir. We don't like to leave that early. On the road by 9:30, get to MDI by 11pm. |
+1 Best approach during a pandemic. |

Adding more exempt states. Maybe OP will get lucky!

Oh nice! I’m not holding out hope for VA to be added but that would make things a little easier (not OP). I’m going mid-August and but am starting 2 hours south of dc. I have little kids so it’s a bit too hard for us in 1 day but will drive 4 hours after work Friday, stay at a hotel and then haul butt like 5 am the next day and get up at a reasonable time. We broke it up last year by staying half way in New Haven, CT with family but we can’t do that this year due to social distancing. May break it up halfway on the way home since we won’t get a super early start. |
OP here. I think Md should definitely be added to the list of exempt states! |
