Lee Mount Vernon... is it time for a name change?

Why do you say it's pretty obvious they won't do the right thing? Have you discussed this with them? Are you now saying the club is racist because of the name they have had for a long time? I agree that it could be changed but to pin the club as being racist because of the name is a bit ridiculous. You are clearly not aware of the diversity within the club. Families, players, coaches, staff, all diverse. Due to this diversity they probably would be open to the conversation. Some of this negativity is absurd.

This is not the first time it's been brought up. Having dealt with LB previously, if my DD played for her again I'd fear reprisal. If there were second teams, DD would definitely have gotten moved down. I'm not the PP, and this is only anecdotal but you did ask a personal question so it requires a personal answer. The club won't make changes because this conversation has been immediately dismissed in the past.

Bring it up to another director. Bring it up to the board. There are now more voices to speak to where in the past there was only her and another.

If say first we approach someone about this is say a post but they are a control freak then we reach out the the 2nd person asking them to explain what the conversation is. In my experience the 2nd person explains to the 1st confused person what the conversation is and that makes a change. You know what, as a person of color, I think my children have seen enough of this club. I cannot tell who is who, but I don't need to. The name doesn't really bother me, but the responses on this are just embarrassingly ignorant. Nobody is talking about Africans or Egyptian pyramids, I believe the only names brought up were:

not the OP, but good job with the strawman by misrepresenting it. the position put forward is change the name from Lee Mount Vernon to something else. the person above responded saying "stop changing the subject to talk about slaves in Africa or the Egyptian pyramids". you now are saying the person is unwilling to have a conversation, but the point is: the conversation wasn't happening (because it keeps changing away from Robert E. Lee and Mount Vernon plantation).

So Thomas Jefferson was a slave owner... Shall we rename the Jefferson cup? Virginia was a slave state, shall we rename that? George Washington and many of the founding fathers were slave owners, even though he freed his. But it was a common practice. Rewrite history......

Learn from History, but you cannot rewrite it. Some of you house wives mine as well be modern slave owners.. The lady that cleans your house is getting paid pennies on the dollar. The guy that mows your lawn is getting less than that.

i would use a geographic area, perhaps Rose Hill or Gum Spring. the reason being is Robert E. Lee was the commanding officer of the Confederate Army and Chicken McNugget has absolutely no relation so it's kinda stupid to use either. the reason why the club is "Lee Mount Vernon" is because the community was different when it started, and we now associate the words in a less benign manner.
