Maybe, maybe not. But will all of the people they expose be fine? Most likely not. You can be alive without being "fine."

exactly the students may be fine - but they will infect others. who may not be fine. why don't people understand this?

I get it. But I also don’t think the kids should have stayed locked in their homes for a year. There is no simple answer. If it was my kid, I would hope that he practiced social distancing enough so that viral load was small.

If what you stated above is true to the best of your ability and you’re cognitively sane and sound please do humanity a favor and cease any and all plans of reproduction. Holy fucCccc

What did I write that is so horrific? That I don’t think kids should be locked up for a year? Or are you accusing me of being wrong about viral load. I’m open-minded. Please enlighten me. Preferably without being so mean.

Do you really think teenagers will be social distancing on a beach trip? Have you seen all the videos and photos from bars and beaches and clubs lately in much of the US?

If public health demands it, they should be “locked up” (hint: they can go outdoors) for a year

Other parts of the world managed to lock and mask enough that they are really in better shape to open right now...not just the crazy denial we have here. I wish I was there!

And other parts of the world also didn’t really shut down and are open again right now. There are data points on both ends of the spectrum. The US is not the only country that did a minimal shut down. And many countries did even less.

My teen is not "locked up". She is visiting friends (outdoors and social distancing) a few times a week but there is NO WAY I would allow her to go on a beach trip with a group. I really hope you can see the difference between those 2 scenarios. Taking precautions is not the same as solitary confinement.

Also other parts opened and then closed again due to spikes from 20 somethings going to bars and clubs

If you don’t want your kids locked up, take them outside. They are your responsibility. Not the school’s. Hypothetical question here...... If schools flat out shut down and furloughed all the teachers, myself included, what would you do?You are going to have to start thinking creatively about this crisis like the rest of us. If you don’t care about my well being then why should I care about yours?

I also want to add that all the selfish people without the self control to practice social distancing are the ones who are spreading the disease and prolonging the spread.

Are you sure about that. It appears that a lot of young, healthy people with corona have strokes and die.

Do you know what this means for Fall? DL until Spring 2021

Imagine if those 17 high schoolers were in class now for 14 days... spreading to staff and peers. Yeah, you can finish the story by yourself.

It's little kids (under 10) who don't seem to spread COVID very much,

High schoolers absolutely are part of the spread and part of super spreader events.

I think high school should DL and elementary kids should spread out in the high schools.
