Camps charging ridiculous prices this summer.

I just paid $700 for a week of half-days. Horseback riding camp with 5 students plus instructor.

Is that too much?

My kid is going to a horseback riding camp that is $930 for two weeks (10 days) of 9-4 each day. I think you overpaid. That price hasn't changed from the pre-Covid advertised price.

My other kid will be attending two different day camps. One raised its prices by ~30%, while the other didn't raise theirs at all.

PP you replied to. Indeed, the cost is very different! I hope my kid enjoys it. Apparently it's strictly distant: each student will catch their own horse, prepare it, saddle and bridle. They will have 1.5 hours for riding instruction, and then groom their horse and let it out again. Then there will be a lecture on some aspect of horsemanship, and everyone has to sit apart with their own water bottle and snack. 4 hours total every day.

I hope your kid has fun! It sounds like a good program -- just higher-priced than some other options.

Plus extra cleaning supplies, PPE for staff, additional sets of supplies like markers and scissors so nobody has to share, cubbies to separately store kids belongings...

Welcome to the post pandemic world. The cost to the businesses have sky rocketed. Those that survived the shut down are under increasing safety requirements, operating under debt from recovery loans, and a very limited number of clients. If you are lucky enough to get a spot in any program, you will pay dearly.

My kid’s orthodontist tacked on a $20 Covid fee for a 10-minute tightening appointment. Granted, their risks are much higher than a day camp, but you can imagine how that might extrapolate through a full week of additional staff, supplies, and equipment.

If you were already registered and camp is still happening then obviously they can't change the price. But other camps have raised their prices SIGNIFICANTLY because they know people are desperate.
