There are exceptions. Indoor seating is opening up at half capacity for restaurants - you can't wear a mask and eat. Dentists can't work on patients with a mask. Exercising with a mask can be seriously dangerous. |

| There is no way I would go into my gym to work out if other people are there without masks. |
| You fools better not go |
| I don't think we'll go to an indoor gym. If they hold classes outdoors perhaps we'll do that. |
Don't but it's allowed if people are 10' apart. It stinks for smaller places but I can't work out with a mask on! |
Particles can go as far as 20+ feet so 10' is an arbitrary number when breathing heavily. They can open whatever they want but I am not going! |
At some point, you're going to have to address your agoraphobia. Because whatever you're dealing with mentally does not correspond to actual risk. |
You think people should be wearing masks while they run on the treadmill, etc? |
DP. But there is an actual risk here if the room isn’t very large (e.g. a class). There are people exhaling forcefully with no masks, and the particles have nowhere to go which means they will be hanging around in that room, and you are in there for more than a few min. Yikes. We all need to remember that many things are opening due to economic pressure rather than safety, and make smart decisions. |
But you're assuming that this will be in a room of all infected people, or that your risk is high. Numbers are going down dramatically in NOVA, people who are symptomatic must stay home, and temperature checks will be required. And numbers will be reduced. The risk still seems quite low. Even if you get covid, if you're a reasonably healthy person, you're highly unlikely to experience serious issues or consequences. Everyone ought to make the best decision for themselves, but there's a lot of irrational anxiety and fear that isn't rooted in sense. |
| I miss my OTF classes but cannot imagine a scenario in which I'd be comfortable working out there right now. Even with limiting classes to 10 people, it's exactly the kind of small space they used in examples of how easily the virus can spread. Even if I'm low risk, I don't want to participate in an activity that could further community transmission. I know the economy is in an awful place, I know people are desperate, but there's this pervasive magical thinking that if we just go back to normal, things will be normal. |
There are a few posters who belittle anyone who points out the obvious risk of exposure in an indoor gym. Are you gym owners by any chance? If you’re going into a yoga or solidcore studio you just need to hope none of your fellow classmates are infected. It’s not practical to wear masks, and this is exactly the type of setting that scientists have determined to be high risk for transmission (indoors, no masks, fairly close proximity to others over extended period). There are so many comparatively low risk ways to exercise outside - why risk it? |
Actually yes. In fact, best would be not to make any of the cardio equipment available, just weights. People can walk, run, and bike outdoors. |
| It is a very tough situation with gyms. I am imagining many will stay away for some time. There are levels of risk and the gym is likely similar to eating inside a restaurant, more risky than an outdoor pool and less risk than an airplane. Each to decide. The employees will stay way clear of the exercisers. |
