GPS tracking for kids

What happened to keeping an eye on your kids?

So you think that every kid that has ever been kidnapped or abducted was from parents who were not keeping an eye on them? That sounds naive to me. You never take your eyes off yours for a split second? I keep an eye on mine, but I would get a microchip if they had them for the same reason I got one for my dog(that I also keep an eye on) bad things happen sometimes no matter how careful you are. I agree with the PP who said they would do it if it expired at age 18, after that it is up to them.

Do you know how incredibly rare it is for a child to be abducted? And when they are, it's almost always by the other parent. You're talking about implanting a foreign body in your child's body, with unknown health consequences. We don't even know for sure if just using a cell phone causes cancer or not.

I'm in. I would do an implant if it expired at age 18.

Me too. If they make them for dogs, why aren't they available for children?

The ones for pets though are scanable. You have to bring the pet into a vet who can scan for the chip. It's not real time gps tracking. Is it?

Because it's wrong and we don't live in a sci fi film.

No, it doesn't track real time for pets.

I disagree that it's wrong. Why is it wrong? Invasion of privacy? Does a six year old have privacy?

If it expires/has to come out at age 18 I am all for it.

I dunno, maybe because you are implanting something that constantly receives radio waves inside your kid, plus whatever power source it needs to do so? Or maybe because no code is foolproof and someone else could hack it and find your little darling (and then just cut the chip out of him/her)?

I have joked with my DH about implanting a GPS chip into my child, but no I wouldn't do it. It just feels wrong. I'm not sure I can explain why to someone who doesnt think it is. Isn't that what morality is about. Just knowing when something is wrong.

But I thougt they did have things you could attach to their shoes, which is a little less likely to be left behind then a backpack.
