They answer to whom??

They’re correctional officers from the Bureau of Prisons.

Seriously. No fedl troops deployed in DC. Find another line.

DC is a city, get over it. So you'll have a mayor, governor, state senate, state house, What's going to be your capital? A specific neighborhood? DC statehood also violates the Constitution.

Go move to MD or VA if you don't like taxation without representation. You knew the deal before living there. At worst,DC could just be absorbed into MD/VA. Another state for a small city is idiotic.

We have more residents than 3 states. Sent way more troops to every major war than a number of other states.

It does not violate the constitution to designate a smaller portion of the city as Federal property (WH, Capitol, Mall and surrounding streets).

DC already has a plan for statehood, but thanks for the concern trolling

In short, shove it up your nose.

I don't agree with the Federal actions relating to these protests.

However, I think this situation proves that there is a reason there should be a FEDERAL district. Which is not residential and not controlled by state and local powers.

Perhaps the Federal district should be made smaller and the more residential areas of DC carved out as a state or a part of another state. But there absolutely should be a Federal district, controlled by the Feds.

The current Administration won't be there forever. We need to think long term. I would want the Obama Admin, for example, to have control over a Federal district and not have a power struggle with the DC authorities. (Not that he would be a fool enough to allow that to happen).

Wow, please think a bit beyond a “night of peace” to the implications of this. Read the pieces by Mattis and Mullin — two former military leaders who absolutely share your “God bless the US military” sentiment who believe trump’s use of the military is absolutely wrong.
