Is it okay to ask a (steak) restaurant to pre-cut your steak back in the kitchen?

I think medium rare serves their steak presliced?

OP if you want your steak already cut, go to Medium Rare. They are open for carry-out.

Why would you do that?

Not ok.
But we were on a cruise last year and my 8 year old ordered steak several times for dinner and each time they asked if he wanted it cut up. I was THRILLED to not have to do it for him.

Haha seems like something my Spoiled 10 yo would do!
I was hoping he would grow out of it but apparently some people never do...

Hahahaaa, PP. what I was thinking. You’re going to have something coming along with the steak.

This has to be a troll. Not something a grownup would ask for (unless a senior citizen with no teeth - sarcasm).

No. I think it’s a great idea. I would ask for it. I think I will next time. I’m a great tipper, so nbd.

Of course it is. No self respecting Chef would refuse little customization and this is not even doing nothing as far as cooking. .it is just cutting.. 5 second deal really.

I have one functional hand pricks.

You can ask and they can say no. Our cooks would tell the server to get lost.

I'm guessing most of these responses are from people who consider Sizzler their main steakhouse. The best steakhouses will happily cut in the kitchen - especially because the trend now is to order 2-3 steaks for the table so everyone can try a bit of each.

But if you insist that you have your own medium well 12 oz filet yeah don't cut that in the kitchen.

You Americans are simply amazing.

Only if you order it well done.
