Anyone suspect masks make us crazier..or maybe it just makes me crazier

This country has been full of doctors, nurses, and scrub techs working surgeries all day, wearing masks. The mask is not the problem.

A doctor tested his own CO2 while wearing surgical + N95s and found it was extremely elevated. All us running around with cloth masks are obviously fine of course.

Medical professionals do it all day long on a regular basis. You’ve watched too many conspiracy theory videos.

This ridiculousness must be getting spewed out on Fox news because my mother just told me the same thing about wearing masks.

If you were breathing in just carbon dioxide and there was no real air coming in, you'd be dead.

So unless you have one of the high tech filtering masks with a solid seal, your mask isn’t much help?

No, that is not the takeaway.

I think the entire situation is making people nastier/more on edge.

It affects my peripheral vision. It makes me anxious and dizzy. Therefore yes I am irritable. And it’s hard to breathe. Not impossible but not pleasant. I applaud those who have no issues. I respect you. I’m different. Respect me. I will wear it of course but I’m allowed not to like it. Just sharing my experience.

I agree. Probably my imagination but I feel like everyone is eyeing everyone else as a potential threat.

People in some countries wear masks every single day on their commutes, right? Women in some countries cover their faces in public every single day, right? Health care workers, tattoo artists, painters, nail techs...all wear masks every day during their working hours. It's a good thing to weak a mask. Let's do it.

If you are having an emotional reaction to wearing a mask, maybe talk to a professional about it because that's not normal. Talk Space might be a good first option.

And maybe buy yourself a few masks you love (like a nice fabric or with a design you like) so you have a positive reaction to putting yours on?

It’s your anxiety, and the mask is a trigger. My dad is a retired dentist. When masks were first introduced in dentistry, he and his colleagues complained that it was impossible to wear one all day and they couldn’t breathe or work with one on. And then they got over it and he wore one all day every day for thirty years.

Because other people's carbon dioxide is better?

You should try a few different types. The paper ones that come 50 in a pack are too big for me and block my vision. The KN95s that are more cone-shaped fit my face better, but get hot and it's harder to exchange air because they are more effective. I save those for grocery shopping or any time I might feel like more protection. I use a close-fitting cotton mask for curbside pickup or other low-touch encounters. Those are most comfortable and easy to breathe through, but obviously offer less droplet protection.

I think the mask itself makes a big difference. I have a couple and one that is much thicker and badly fitting is much more difficult to wear. I can wear a simple disposable mask all day tho.

I really hope that mask wearing does not become a new normal. I don’t care what people in other countries do or what people who choose to work in certain professions do or what woman who are being forced to do in some Muslim counties. I choose to live my life without a mask as soon as I can. I get the feeling some people actually enjoy this. Or they like being a martyr.

Global pandemic does not care what you think. Nobody cares how you live your life as long as you follow the rules when you interact with the rest of us in public.

Yes. I avoid going to places that require a mask as much as possible. I wear it because I’m supposed to but I avoid and will continue to avoid situations that require them until there’s a vaccine I guess. I assume people will stop wearing masks once we are secure with a proven vaccine. Or has this pandemic changed our lives forever and Americans will only feel comfortable in public places masked.

I don’t like wearing one, but I always do! For me, it is a little harder to breathe, so I only like to wear it for a short time like grocery shopping. I had a doctor appointment today and had to wear it for a full hour, and it is unpleasant.
