Is your husband Italian? “Rocco” is typically the Italian nickname for “Roberto.”
So maybe “Rocky” nickname for “Robert?”
Good luck!

Now, I'm trying to think of first names that go with Rocky. Any ideas? Or does it really matter becasue most people don't use their middle names except for official forms anyway?

Nothing goes with Rocky! Just give him a name you would like yourself. He probably will go by William R. Smith!

I think I was overthinking this. I'll just try to find some traditional names DH and I can agree on. He wants something sporty like Ace Rocky or Gunnar Rocky. I don't like any of those.

Our daughter is named after a beloved relative of mine who passed away. She has a traditional, although somewhat old fashioned, name that I love and has deep meaning to me. Maybe I can't replicate that with baby #2, but I can ensure he doesn't sound like a pet, lol!

::cringe:: Hold strong, OP.

No, Rocco is its own "proper" name - it's the name of a saint. In Italy it is NOT a nickname for Roberto. Are you saying it's a nickname for Roberto in the US? I have never heard that.

The name is Rocco. Rocco is the Italian version of the French Saint Roch. "Rocky" is just a nickname.

PS, San Rocco was invoked as a protector against the plague and contagious diseases. This may be a timely name!

Lol, so I'm a female but growing up my nickname was Rocky. It's because my last name was Rockwell. Please don't name your child Rocky. It's not a real name. Gunnar or Ace as first names? Please be a troll.

I really don’t mean this in a mean-spirited way: Gunnar or Ace Rocky sound like names for a new puppy to me, not a new human.

Rocco is a family name for us. I love this name. Three generations and I didn’t put it into the mix because it became trendy.
Rocky, not Rocco, is a ridiculous middle name. Especially if you have no Italian blood in either of your families. Go ahead and saddle your kid with that just because your husband likes it. There’s been a lot worse on this forum.

Rocky is a really odd name to purposely name your kid. If you are going to use it as a middle name just choose whatever first name you like, because nothings going to go with it.
