Palmer for a boy?

- 5% possibility it's an old money family who doesn't care
- 10% likelihood of some weird low-class thing I don't know about
- 85% (fairly certain) it's a class-anxious family that wants the kid to appear well-heeled but has trouble making the club fees

Agree completely with this. And I actually think it's *worse* for a girl than a boy, but it's awful for either.

What about Parker instead

I dislike ALL of the occupational-surname-as-first-name names when they're given for how they sound rather than what they mean.

Palmer, Baker, Cooper, Chandler, Tanner, Wheeler, etc.: unless it's a family name or honoring one's trade or life calling I think they sound silly.

My uncle’s name was Palmer. It’s not my favorite name, but it isn’t even remotely as horrible as other posters are saying. Cameron Eubanks from Southern Charm has a baby girl named Palmer.

Ditto. There was a thread on this some years back. Somebody suggested Executioner.

Palmer is guaranteed to be a DB. Just sayin'.

Yes! Palmer Woodward was Amanda’s father on Melrose Place. And there was a Palmer on All My Children.

Palmer and Saul both suck. Please find better names.

There was a book from the library that I loved as a child named "Palmer Patch" about a skunk who had been stolen from the wild and deskunked to become a pet.

Sooo...Palmer makes me think of a skunk. I honestly had no idea it was a "real" name, I thought it was like Fido, made up for animals. Oops.

A friend’s mom was named Rosie. My friends thought it was hilarious to call her Rosie Palmer. Palmer wasn’t even her last name.

+1. I think it’s her too.

I actually like the name for both sexes. My teenaged kid likes to watch some Adam Sandler movie that has a woman named Palmer in it.

Palmer is a dog's name. Either bloodhound or a foxhound

I think it's even more ridiculous if it "honors" a family trade. MY FAMILY MAKES TIRES! SO IM WHEELER!

Well, there you go. That rather proves the point.
