GAL and ECNL players choosing not to play HS soccer?

She is happy that she played 2 seasons even though it cost her significant playing time on her ECNL team those seasons. It really is an individual choice based on each girls situation and objectives.

The loss of ECNL playing time may have also cost her D1.

If your kid is a NCSL or CCL level HS age kid, yes, the quality of the soccer probably seems good.

Oh, right, all those u15-u19 boys teams from clubs like Arlington, Alexandria, SYC, Herndon, SDOR, etc. are terrible, right?

Remember the focus and title of the thread before you post here.

Folks who say no to HS soccer aren’t interested in your up selling of HS soccer. You’re mistaking this thread for a debate about the pros or cons. It is simply who isn’t playing. You need not come here and be offended. Go play HS soccer and be happy.

Again, with people seeking affirmation of their choices.

I'm not looking for anyone's approval or to convince anyone to play. My point is that there are good players and good teams out there. Yorktown last year, for instance, was a very talented team that played well. If you think you're better off without it because your club offers better training or it will take a toll/add risk of injury - makes total sense - but if it's all about the level being beneath your kid, odds are you're probably overrating your kid.

And my point is, I don’t care that there are some good players or some good coaches. There are simply not enough of them to make it worth it for my kid.

Feel free to move along.

The last high school soccer game I saw was a playoff between Oakton and Washington-Lee, with the VA State Player of the Year playing for Oakton before going off to play for Notre Dame. I find the animosity towards HS soccer odd. Plenty of kids play both AAU and high school basketball though the level of play can be dramatically different. Unless your kid is Pulisic, Nyeman, Yow or a top DCU or Loudoun player, you probably need to relax and let them enjoy playing with friends if they want to do so. You must swoon if your kid wants to play pickup. My God, the thought of it! Fun! Improvisation!

And here we go!!

Lots of kids choose not to play. It is ok. Frankly, some of the better kids opting out opens the game and experience for kids who would not have otherwise made the team.

Relax. Stop acting like the guy at the party who insists everyone drink up when I told you several times, no thanks I’m good.

Accept it. I don’t have to think HS soccer is amazing and you don’t have to be upset that I’m not impressed. Enjoy yourself. But, again, this thread is for those who decide against HS soccer. I really don’t understand why you are here to begin with.

No, her 5'1 height and average speed was what cost her D1.

+1. HS basketball is a telling comparison. Sure fire NBA players play HS basketball while soccer players here who have slim to no chance at playing pro here think HS soccer is beneath them. Laughable.

How many USWNT players played high school soccer?

Or how many did not?

What evidence is there that one is better than the other?

Playing HS sports is simply, American. Part of our youth’s culture. Don’t poo poo it. It is fine if your kid chooses not to play but why such animosity to kids that want to have fun and represent their school? Sheesh.

HS soccer is a social event. That is important too for some kids. HS soccer is not soccer, I see lots of pics during practice showing up on social media, lots of injuries, lots of really awful fouls. A lot of standing around. And because you are not paying for HS soccer, the propensity for favoritism is outlandish. If the coach knows your parents or your older brother - you are golden. It is more of a club than a sport.

good grief - go do your own freaking research. AND USWNT players are in their late 20s and early 30s. They are not 15 or 16 years old like HS players.

Go on lazy loser

Yikes! Yeah, 5’1 is hard to overcome. That said, D3 can be a awesome route for kids who want the best of both worlds. The best to her.
