How much do you pay for car insurance?

We pay $1100/year. 2 newer vehicles, both with comp and collision. We're in Maryland and our coverage is with Erie Insurance. We also have our home & life insurance with them, so we get discounts.

Insurance costs are state specific b/c the liability laws are different in each state.

DC is a "no fault" "state." That means you can get your insurance or the other guy's to pay out more easily, but everybody pays higher prices.

VA is not "no fault." The insurance rates will be cheaper b/c of the laws and the difficulty of proving fault.

I don't know how MD compares.

Rates also depend on age and I think they can also use your credit score (I was in a super-high credit score pool for insurance once), in addition to previous accidents, tickets and claims. Rates also change depending on the type of vehicle and the deductible chosen.

So really, this thread is not going to help anyone. There are too many variables to make a valid comparison.

I pay $800 with Geico for a 2005 Subaru. One driver, no accidents, fairly high deductibles. I wonder what the difference is. Aggravating!

We pay a little over $1000 every 6 months with USAA.

2 drivers, a 2006 Honda Oddysey and a 2010 Jeep Wrangler

No accidents or traffic violations.

I have Erie and love them - very easy to deal with. We have all our policies with them. About ?$1150 for two cars, two drivers - a 6 yo honda and a new toyota.

Progressive $78/month for a 10-yr old Volvo station wagon and I do have an accident from 6 years ago (under State Farm) and a speeding ticket or two on my record.

680 every 6 mos for an '04 Eclipse and '09 Traverse. I have speeds but insurance hasnt caught them. VA rates are less than most for some reason.
