Sorry I meant since coronavirus. Small coastal town and we have got a lot of people from the bigger cities coming since coronavirus. |
Another option: rent a house in the mountains or farm country with lots of outdoor space to run and explore and few people around. |
This, OP. You can find beautiful remote places in farm country or mountains within a tank-of-gas away. |
I would not want to fly right now or drive far enough away that you need to make multiple stops - public facilities can’t be cleaned at the rate they would need to be to keep people from infecting others. So the only obvious solution would be to not use them. I think restrictions will lessen, people will go out and do normal life and we will see a surge in cases - hopefully we have flattened the curve enough that the spike will not overwhelm resources but there will be a spike, for sure.
I would agree that more space and privacy for the summer would be nice. If you can afford a Jersey Shore rental, can you afford a summer rental 1-3 hours from DC? No need to stop for gas / bathrooms. Easy to come home if something changes, no need to worry about family visiting who have not been isolating and you could “run home” for a second round of baby things if you were desperate. I also imagine you have jobs that allow for summer telework so that if SIP orders are lifted you don’t have to be in the office the next day |
Option 2 or stay home & go hiking a lot. Trails in the DC area are pretty much all open. |
It is really hard to imagine the Jersey shore being open, unless cases are way down. The beaches are always so packed, people buying stuff, touching stuff, etc.
I've been looking at houses on lakes but it seems they are already going up in price a lot. Everyone has the same idea. |
Probably because we've all discovered that we can be remote. If I could be somewhere gorgously warm right this second with great wifi, I would wfh and homeschool. But I didn't have a crystal ball in February. |
Option 2 sounds lovely! I would so do that. Maybe it’s a cultural thing, but I have no problem with parents visiting or other family members visiting. I like my kids spending time with grandparents. |
Yeah, it's a cultural thing right now to not want to spread coronavirus ![]() |
Tough decision! We're also a family with two kids in an apartment, and I definitely understand the desire for more space. I think option 1 is the best, since it seems the least like you would be exposing your family. I definitely wouldn't fly right now. It might be worth exploring option 4 more to see if it is actually an option. |
I would not go to NJ where it is the second largest hotspot for coronavirus.
I would rent a house in NC or somewhere rural. We live in a large house in VA. We axed our international travel plans so I’m looking for something drivable. I haven’t started looking yet but I want something with a private pool, preferably on the water. |
Your culture should care more about the grandparents and protect them from getting a virus that could kill them far easier than it would you. Is everyone in your culture being stupid about the impact of this virus? |
Second this. We won’t be staying home this summer. Weighed the risks and it’s an easy decision for us. |
i would do #2 |
That’s an overkill. If everyone is healthy, it’s fine. |
