he votes in florida, i believe - we don't need absentee ballots here. anyone can vote by mail. i've lived here for five years and have voted by mail in almost every election - easy peasy. it is one of the few election-related things we do well here. |
Not sure what the rules are now, But, I was a Florida voter many years ago. I was living overseas and voted absentee. There were a couple of hoops to jump through--it was not just a matter of mailing the ballot back. In fact, I may have had to have it notarized. Or, maybe just had to have someone witness it. I was on a military post. What Pelosi is pushing is to have everyone mailed a ballot. People move. Things happen. For example, we received two different census requests with different code numbers on them--the street address had a different, but somewhat accurate name. This type of thing could easily happen with mailed ballots. People move. You could definitely have two or three families receiving ballots at the same address--and, it could be abused. Just like it has been abused at nursing homes. |
I live in Florida and vote by mail. You do not need to have the ballot notarized. You just request a paper ballot, it gets sent, you fill it out, sign the envelope to confirm it's yours, and send it back. It could not be easier. It seems like in *pandemic times* concerns about hypothetical voter fraud take a back seat to actual issues concerning people getting sick, and overwhelming the hospital system, and dying, because it is literally impossible to vote safely in person. |

GOP worried about fraud? Not unless their committing it themselves. Remember this situation from the mid-terms? https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/politics-government/article226864674.html |
It could be abused, but to date, the only documented cases of abuse are from Republicans. If it were so widespread, I would think Barr's DOJ would have exposed it by now, no? |
Or the special commission Trump appointed with Kris Kobach which was quickly disbanded because it didn’t find any evidence? |
| That too. |

You mail your ballot in. It’s scanned. Checked against the local voter registry and verified in a count by a Dem, a Republican and an independent voter. Problem solved. Republicans are trying to sell the ludicrous idea that people are photocopying ballots and mailing many in.
The whole point, there is a paper trail. Fraud is virtually impossible. |
The Census has nothing to do with voter registration. You’re going to pull a muscle reaching like that. |
That's the sad thing. Base doesn't care.... about anything. |
The base is self-loathing. |
+100. We should vote this way by default. Too much election tampering, create a trail. Provide secure collection ballot boxes manned by aameras and mail scanners. Bonus: Increase revenue for the USPS. |
+1. |
As opposed to, say, Texas, where to be eligible to vote early by mail, you must: be 65 years or older; be disabled; be out of the county on election day and during the period for early voting by personal appearance; or be confined in jail, but otherwise eligible." |
| The MAGAs don't care if Trump essentially prohibits them from voting or potentially catching a deadly disease. All they apparently care about is if Trump can still vote by mail. |
