Supposedly your step son is top 20 in the US. There was no single 12 y.o. with 51.26 100FR time in 2018 competition year. All individual swimming times is openly published info. And you also marked my previous response to your message to be deleted so you can continue posting non-factual "record" times of your relative.

You posted his name so I asked Jeff to delete. I messaged him and he said for state the cutoff time is 56 and regionals is 1:01 if that helps the OP to determine what a good time is.

Even if your step son indeed swam that time, what’s the point of sharing this info with parents asking about good time for a beginner 12 yo?
It’s like saying “Phelps swam 49 for 100FR” or whatever, but how relevant it is to the author of this thread rather than teasing her child who is a beginner ?

I wasn’t trying to make her feel bad at all! She asked what a good time is so I shared a time of a good swimmer I know personally. I even went back a bit in his meet history to make sure I pulled a time from when he was a young 12 and not closer to 13. She wants to know what is considered a good time- I posted a good time from an actual 12 year old in an actual race.

And what we are telling here that the time you posted wasn’t swam at any official race so you are likely bragging here. There were several 12 yo in 2018-2019
competition year that swam around 51 sec, but none did exact same milliseconds. The devil is in detail

I don’t know why you think anyone would make up a swim time, but I don’t know how to prove it to you without remaining anonymous. I didn’t know insane parents would dig around on the internet to look up the time and then post the names of minors on the forum, so I’m not going to share any additional details. Op I’ll add that I asked my stepson’s older sister (she’s also a swimmer) and she said “a minute or even a minute and ten seconds” is a good time.

I'd consider a good (not great but respectable) time to be the BB standard, so in this case 1:05.89.

There was no such time in 2018. You posted time that’s top 20 in the US so that’s normal to expect people might check in usaswimming.
Not sure why you made up the time but don’t try to call others crazy while it’s you who made up the time.

OMG crazy. I didn’t make up a time. There’s a reason you cannot see it and if you really wanted to you sleuth you could see the reason by reading one of my other posts, I let something slip. But now that I know people are crazy and are going to dig around for the time and the name I’m not going to be more specific.

OP, there are hundreds of kids at every winter meet in the area swimming "Slower than B" times. So yes, if he is hovering around a B, he can join a winter team and will improve.

Are you sure you don't mean 1:51.26?

Anything under 1:10 is respectable, under 1:05 is solid, and under a minute is really really good

NP. I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't think people would look up this information. But what I find truly insane is that you claim he came in second! If any of this is true, he's well on his way to becoming well known at the next Olympics.

And she gave exact time 51.26 and the season when it was supposedly registered. This time was NOT officially swam in the US at that age group in 2018-2019 season.
Some people lie thinking they can’t be easily caught and when they are caught they blame others for own stupidity

She posted time 51.26 that wasn’t even officially registered in the US in that age group in 2018-2019
Why ?

There's a kid in this area who went 49 low as a 12 year old...so low 51 at 12 is not unheard of. But both, obviously, are phenomenal age group swimmers. Whether they continue at that level or plateau is a different story. I've seen both happen.

OP -- your kid will get on a year-round team and will drop a lot of time fast. At 12, it is not too late for boys to start swimming seriously...girls can be a different story.

Of course there are at least 20 swimmers in the US each year swimming high 49-low 50s but all these times are so rare and openly published. Milliseconds are official. The point is that there was no-one swimming 51.26 in 2018-2019 in 11-12 age group. Other kids swam different seconds/milliseconds and that matters in swimming.
