WWYD — Sick Kid and Vacarion

OP...how does he feel this am? I am hoping for up and playing. Ate breakfast.

Buy trip insurance in the future. It's cheap!

Op here. He hasn’t thrown up since 5 am. He won’t eat anything because he is nervous he’ll thtow up again. I’m having him rest and have unlimited screen time to keep him away from siblings. Assuming no one is throwing up tomorrow am we are going to go as planned. Worse case some of us will get it there, but it seems to be very fast moving. Thanks for the advice, all!

Worst case is your little ones get it on the plane and then everyone else flying with you gets it too.

Report back please OP. I’m very curious how this will turn out. Given how these things spread, this seems a bit of a gamble...

It’s truly fascinating to me how some threads have such vastly different consensus—some threads like this turn the OP into a devil for even considering getting on a plane within a week after a bug like this—this thread is a “go ahead you’re probably fine”
Group—fascinating!

Well, I wouldn't stop a trip because of a stomach bug well a day in advance because 1) it could be food related not contagious and 2) it's usually so fast moving. I wouldn't not go because of a bad cold.

Diagnosed flu? Dangerous to spread, contagious, makes the child feel lousy. So yes, I'd not go for that.

Fever in a child? Potential not go. Might be strep or flu that you would need medical care for. Some children are susceptible to seizures with fever.

So yes, different bugs, different response.

Go and have fun. He’ll be over this in no time.

He will be, but maybe not the people on the airplane and resort he’ll spread it to.

Of we’ll, as long as OP gets her vacation!

Likely there is another person on the plane who is sick but does not know it yet. They are the most contagious. I would have gone too.

For the people who would not go on the trip...curious to know when you would feel it would be safe to travel..and how you came to that conclusion?

This is OP. We made it. No other kids sick yet. He never had a fever and didn’t throw up since 5 am. Given that he would have been cleared to go to school (no fever ever and 24 hours post vomit), I was fine flying. We would have lost close to 10k if we just didn’t go!

That's good news OP!

Not true for norovirus / stomach bugs.

PP here. I almost certainly would have canceled, but we had norovirus rip through us recently and I simply cannot imagine being away from home or on a plane when it hit.

I know you can never know when something like that is coming, but if someone was already sick with it, I wouldn’t risk it personally.

Grow up, PP

This is OP. The comment did make me laugh. I feel like now we have three young ones the timing of these thinks have been sucking. We had one kid with RSV over thanksgiving and two kids with the flu over Xmas. We even kept the middle one out of pre-K this week to avoid this. Ha. Best laid plans...

I’m glad you got a laugh. It is amazing how seriously some people take DCUM.

Guessing you're the poster of the juvenile "the water in Mexico" joke?

Yeah that's it, everyone is just taking the forum too seriously.
