Screens are not OK for either me or my kid. Worse than reading for my kid. I think that's an individual by individual thing. |
Not much. Just try to make it not a big deal. Your child will puke (have bags, wipes, new clothes on hand) and then feel better. Bring lollipops and other things to do that are not reading or watching screens which make it worse. Dramamine causes major behavioral issues in our kid for 2 days after so we deal with 20-40 minutes of discomfort instead. |
Are screens really an issue on an airplane where you don’t have a front window to look out of anyway? I thought the issue in a car is that looking at a book or a screen takes away the visual feedback you would otherwise get from looking out the front of the car. |
Avoid screens. They make you so much sicker. Also pack food. And yes Dramamine!! |
They are a huge issue for me on planes and trains. Take the screen away. You are making her sicker and she can’t regulate bc the screen is so addictive. Get her an audiobook or music and headphones! |
Keep her head up because looking down to read makes one car/air |
When our daughter was 4 when the wheels came up so did her stomach. It was awful! Dramamine was the solution though she once ended up sleeping through a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon. She once barfed in the back of a cab on the way to the airport! Ugh! |
I’m not OP (don’t want more people to start attacking her about the screens thinking my ignorance was hers). |
NP. This must be very individual. I can’t do books or screens in a car or train, but have no issues with either on an airplane. |
Dramamine from a person who was miserable on every childhood trip |
You have to figure out what works for her - I get motion sickness and screens are not good for me (meds are!), but for my son, having him focus on a screen the entire flight is actually better for him. He always throws up on landing or with turbulence, but refuses to take meds (doesn't like feeling woozy), so we've all gotten good at anticipating and catching it in the sick bag. We've all accepted that throwing up or feeling weird on meds is what we need to travel. |
