Not all knives are weapons, so PPs post could be misleading. Not enough info here.

What is an example of a knife that cannot be used as a weapon? Small butter knife? Besides that, they are all capable of puncturing or cutting.

Many things can be used as a weapon. That's not the point. The question is, was this a knife that was intended to intimidate another student, or did some kid forget to take out his backpack a Swiss Army knife after a scouts trip (or something along those lines)?

I don’t know for sure, but I do know it was on the same kid that punched the teacher last month.

So not likely a boy scout who accidentally brought in his pocket knife?

My guess is no.

MPD will only respond if the knife is over 3 inches -- according to a school staffer.

Do parents expect that all weapons make the news? I don't think that this happens. Or does it seem so unusual that a knife would be at Deal that it is newsworthy?

If not the news, some communication from Ms Neal would be nice.

I’m not sure about the weed mentioned, but as a Deal teacher I have confirmation of the other pieces of this thread.

+1000. Not to mention the amount of edibles past around at lunch time. Deal admin does a good job keeping things quiet

This. And yes, a butter knife in your child's lunchbox, or a fork, will be confiscated.

True -- could be a historic/ cultural artifact.

Only ignorant whites would call it a knife.

I wouldn’t call it a good job... The amount that is swept under the rug these days is absurd and unsafe.

Not just recently, since Albright! Parents would be shocked if they knew what went on at Deal!

How did Albright lead that was different? What has changed?

Since Impact was instituted a Principal’s yearly score has depended on lowering suspension rates every single year. There are now egregious acts that would have resulted in 10 day suspensions a few years ago that now don’t even warrant a detention.
