How many preschools does one need to apply to usually?

River this year is fully enrolled, across every grade, including the preschool, to the extent that AFAIK they did not take a midyear 18-month cohort the way that they have in previous years, and they did not admit all toddler/preschool/preK younger siblings.

When we applied a few years back, they were taking almost all kids; there was plenty of room. So it's not true that every preschool is getting less competitive.
