Face it- no matter what you eat you will be able to find some documentary online or on Netflix that “proves” you’re destroying the earth with your diet of choice. Skepticism should be employed.
The only answer is less people. More birth control and more education and opportunities (choices) for women will naturally decrease the world’s population, and the strain on our resources. That’s my desperate hope: that humanity will someday equalize with our environment. |
Me too. I have three. I don’t water them so they don’t produce. |

Not a fan of avocados, but I know I'm in the minority.
You need to watch Rotten, on Netflix. Watch the Avocado episode, it is fascinating. For those that watch Goliath - specifically this last season - you'll see the parallel in the storyline as it relates to water rights, and the cartel aspect of the Avocado industry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qBsIN9DfU4 |

If it is going to rain anyway, it isn't really *wasting* the 37 gallons if it happens to rain on an avocado plant.
I won't quit eating them. I also ate bananas all through the 90s, knowing full well that the FARC took a cut of the profits. I don't believe that boycotting fruits and veggies will fix the problems in narco-socialist latin American countries. |
| I live in California and eat 1/2 an avocado every day and I won’t change. I’be lost over 50 pounds this year enjoying avocados and I’m not sorry. I have an avocado tree and perhaps you’re just jealous? |
NP and I love avocados and yes I am extremely jealous. Did you grow it from a pit? |
Np. I am sure there is something you are doing in your life that isn't perfect. |
| This probably belongs in the political forum and not diet and exercise. |
| The issue isnt drought in those countries, is it? isnt the water issue a shortage of potable water due to inadequate filtration systems? |
I'm not so sure it does. Avocados have little to no influence on the election. |
+1 |
| I eat avocados and almonds, but not meat --- not for 30 years. pick your battles. |
| Our supermarket avocados here in DMV come from Florida |

The number of foods that are water thirsty and grown in the wrong place is massive. Rice, Almonds, Avacados are just the start of it all. It is one of the reasons that people started to follow the eat local movement and focus on eating foods that are grown in their area.
That said, I eat avacados and rice from time to time. They are not exactly staples for me but they are yummy and I do enjoy them with the right meal. I don't drink Almond milk, or soy or any of the plant based "milks" because most of them equire a stupid amount of water and processing. I don't have lactate issues so I drink milk from the cow, which has its own issues with farming and animal treatment issues. Short of starting my own farm to raise my own food, I am going to make food choices that are problematic for the environment. So I am going to eat what I like and not stress over it. |

Yup, love 'em!
I also eat meat, and I particularly love lamb. |
