I asked my parents about shew, since that's what I grew up saying... they said I was spelling it wrong - pshew. I grew up in Cincinnati. |
LOL |
Pshew is still not a thing.
PSHAW! |
Or Sheesh! |
Shew (pshew? shoo?) is definitely a thing I heard growing up/used. Very colloquial, never would have written it. A light-hearted exclamation similar to "whew" but maybe without the connotation of "relief" as mentioned by PPs.
"Shew, that is one big pile of dirty laundry to wash." Grew up in NC. |
Did anyone besides your family use that term? I've spent a lot of time in the south, including NC, and never heard anything like that. I suppose it could be some kind of variation of "Sho Nuff", which is very common. |
I’m from southern VA and we use “sheeew” to show relief. “Sheew, dodged a bullett on that one right there” |
I don't use any of them. Midwestern roots, grew up in New England and have been in the DMV for 30+ years. |
I use "shoo". I've never seen it spelled "shew". |
Grew up in northern va. Phew means something stinks really badly. Whew is a huge sigh of relief. Shew is from another party of the country, also a sigh of relief. |
Wtf is “shew”?! Is it for people who refer to Meemaw? |
From east NC near Camp Lejeune. Many folks local use “shew” for both whew and phew. Many. |
Not OP, but I've heard "shew" or something similar before! Maybe reading old comic strips?
|
Whew. East Coast (north and mid atlantic)
Who the hell uses "Shew?" Are they trying to get flies and gnats away from them?? |
I am so curious how this post came back up after 2 years. Like did someone actually run a search on the word "shew"?? |
