42+ and OE IVF success

My biggest regret is trying so hard for a OE baby. Finally moved to DE at 43/44. It was hard and I grieved. But my DE child is so amazing.

I had my transfer 2 weeks prior to 42nd bday. It was my 4 round and 1st transfer. First 3 rounds we did pgs. Although i made good amount of eggs each cycle and 4 to 5 blasts each time, they were all pga abnormal. So, last round we didn’t do pgs, transferred 3 embryos and i had my daughter. [/quote}

This has been my experience. I'm 43, been through 4 rounds of IVF, beginning at 42 because my Dr. at SGF told me to come back "when I was ready to get pregnant" and never mentioned the possibility of FREEZING blasts, so I lost a year. Headsmack. I have had 5 blasts, all PGS abnormal. I may skip PGS this time. The last one had one chromosome off and I just felt it might have corrected itself. Of course, you being 41 and me being 43 are very different things. I'm so tired of the up and down emotional cycle.

I suggest you to skip pgs. If its an abnormal embryo most likely it wont implant. There are a lot of arguments about pgs these days about not being correct etc. i read it somewhere, in Europe they sent same embryos to different clinics each time and they were all different results. And dont forget embryos have a better chance in your uterus.

Me too. I did 3 IUIs (waste of money and time, but my numbers weren’t bad) at 42 and 2 IVFs. Moved to de at 43 and had beautiful baby at 44.

Actually the only lifestyle quality proven to make a difference is smoking. Not even alcohol, because I asked.

I did have success at Shady Grove with low stim cycles. I started my first IVF cycle on my 43rd birthday and delivered my daughter shortly after my 44th birthday this month. The odds of success were not great and the process was emotionally challenging. We did three cycles in the hopes of banking a couple of embryos. The first two yielded a PGS normal blast each; the third resulted in one abnormal. We got extremely lucky and our first FET was a success, emphasis on lucky. Our doc said she sees only one or two patients a year with this result using OE at 43. Having been in your shoes, I sincerely wish you the best in this journey.

I have twins from IVF, who were born a month shy of my 42 birthday. Good luck, OP!

At 41-42 its about 20% success rate overall (so not each cycle). And that doesn't count all the people who had numbers too low to do IVF or decided not to b/c numbers were low. At 43, its quite a bit lower. I had good #s and tried several different protocols and 2 REs, but no success until I did donor egg. It would have been hard for me not to try OE at the time (especially with docs saying #s were really good), but I'm so happy with my DD, I kinda wish I had terrible #s and skipped it. Unlike much of what I read for people on this board, the docs did not push DE on me and only became discouraged after several cycles.

Unless you're lucky and it's easy, it's really f-ing hard.
