| There has been no change to the feeder patterns. I believe the mistaken pp is referring to a change in the immersion feeder pattern. |
This is not true. Please stop spreading disinformation. |

There is some question as to whether out of boundary RCF and Westland Spanish immersion students will still get an automatic COSA to B-CC because there is no continuation immersion program at B-CC and because there are AP Spanish and IB classes at many other high schools. It is potentially in flux.
RCF neighborhood students and all Silver Creek in-boundary students still go to B-CC. |
| Np. What about rock view? How does that compare? |
| Read the old threads on Oakland Terrace. We and others have had a bad experience. I don't think the academics are very strong, admin is not responsive, teachers are not responsive either except for a rare few (think that is due to administration), really lacking curriculum, very little communication except the report card (little work comes home, fewer graded), and they don't allow parents (except a select few) to volunteer or be in the school. Its very closed to parents so if you are a hands off parent who doesn't want to volunteer or be involved with academics its a perfect school for you. Also, some teachers are screamers. |
| Stay put, try Flora Spinger and then decide. It really depends on the admin and actual teacher you get. |
|
We are at Rock View and love it - small but active PTA with no drama, talented teachers who can challenge my bright kid while handling his strong quirks with grace.
Friends who go to the other schools on this thread love them too. You can’t go wrong, really. When we were looking they were all on our list given the small inventory and the fact that I married for love lol. |
I'm the OTES PP (or one of them): this description is not consistent with my experience there. There's someone on this board who really, really dislikes OTES. That's fine. There are parents like that at every school. Someone asked about Rock View--I've also heard great things from folks with kids there. Again, the main difference between that, OTES, and Singer, is the dual-language immersion program at OTES. If that's important, I'd want to start from K, rather than wait and see, but YMMV. |
Thanks! I am not ashamed of needing to buy in a less expensive part of town and I know my kid will be fine at any of these schools even if the people in potomac disagree. |
| Pick Glen Haven. |
You hope your kid will be fine, you don’t know. You may not be ashamed for not have the choice but consider 99% of the people who do have the choice choose the other option maybe the know something you don’t. Or maybe you are just smarter than just about everyone who has more money than you do. Maybe |
Those are all good schools and it never occurred to me that people would live there because they need to, not because they want to. At least there is no shame in this case. The idea that living in a more expensive neighborhood would mean there is a better chance that your kids will be fine is ridiculous and not worth discussing. |
This is true, unfortunately. —- The Montgomery County Board of Education has proposed amendments to Board Policy JEE, Student Transfers, and is seeking public comment on the amendments. Currently students who have completed an elementary school immersion program may complete a Notice of Intent form to continue to the aligned middle school immersion program. Under the prior policy language, students attending middle school on a COSA were granted an automatic articulation to a high school in the same feeder pattern. Students attending middle school immersion programs were permitted to articulate to the high school within the feeder pattern of the middle school that housed the immersion program in accordance with the language that permitted students attending middle school on a COSA to articulate to the feeder high school. Under the draft policy recommended by the Policy Management Committee and tentatively acted upon by the full Board, the automatic articulation will no longer be an option starting with students who enter 6th grade in the 2020-2021 school year. The “grandfathering provision” enables students who entered middle school with the expectation that they would be able to articulate to the high school in the feeder program to articulate as planned. MCPS does not offer a high school immersion program. Students who wish to attend a high school other than their home school may apply for a COSA under any applicable provision of Policy JEE, Student Transfers or they may apply to attend countywide programs, regional programs, or other programs specifically identified by the superintendent of schools. More information about those programs may be found at https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/schoolchoice/ Additional highlights of the Board's amendments include the following topics: unique hardships that may qualify students for transfers based on family circumstances; extenuating circumstances related to the medical, emotional, or social well-being of a student; clarification of the provision for receiving a transfer based on a sibling's school of attendance; conditions for approving transfers of children of staff members; academic transfers for high school students; and Draft Board Policy JEE is now available for public comment until December 15, 2019. https://mcpsweb.wufoo.com/forms/rsq9fj00dpls38/ |
| so- not quite true yet, but it’s going to happen |
NP. But relevant for OP, whose kids aren't even in elementary school. |
