Do any of the letters give information about the "enriched" classes at the home middle school?

Waitlisted at Eastern. My letter says "As a result of your student being placed in the wait pool, your student will be enrolled in the Historical Inquiry into Global Humanities course at the home school."

Did you get a rip or a window?

I see that this is funny to you. Maybe you have a fantastic middle school. Many of us don’t, and yes it is useful to me to know before I open it whether it’s an acceptance or not. In fact, I would really appreciate knowing what your home middle school is as you continue to make fun of us.

None of MCPS middle schools are 'fantastic' and my DC's home middle school is Julius West. I think you forgot to take your meds this morning.
You are welcome.

That explains why you think this is funny. You’ve got a wealthy, white, high performing middle school. And you may even think you don’t, because it has a handful of poor kids. But there are a lot of kids who need the magnets more.

NP. You have to admit it was a little funny. With respect and understanding for those waiting anxiously today. Good luck!

NP. Relax. It was a joke. You're being unreasonably grumpy.

With all due respect, no matter how much your kid needs the magnet program, that doesn't change the fact that knowing what the envelope/rip card means changes your experience only by letting you know 30 seconds earlier if your kid was accepted/rejected. How important could that 30 seconds possibly be?

we did not get any letter yet does that mean DC was rejected. was there a rejection envelope too

All decisions were mailed out early this week... So, you are still in the running..

I thought no one is taking the admission process seriously after they introduced the cohort thing, it is almost impossible for kids from good ES to get in

We didn’t get anything either. The mail doesn’t always take the exact same amount of time. If your kid was tested, I’m pretty sure you get some kind of mail about the result.

MCPS’s biggest joke. They can’t even handle one thing fairly.

The enriched classes are fantastic! We love them at our school.

This.

My kid was at a regional CES last year and it was crazy how many qualified kids did not get in.

The Magnet MS programs are kind of a joke compared to what they used to be.

So you refused to accept the spot for your kid in protest?

FWIW, we got a rejection today. I’m ok with it because my now-7th grader was rejected and has fared well with the enriched studies at our home MS, and I know the magnets are very tough to get into (we are at a high ses home Ms). Furthermore, my 5th grader was not wanting to go to the magnet since he was leery of anything too different that what he knows.

But gosh, he “slipped”! His scores [MCPS%] were
66%V, 96%Q, 96% NV. This is after getting in the 99s for the CES-eligibility CoGat (maybe a little lower for the V but not this much lower) and getting into the CES and getting As there. We didn’t do any prep this time. (We did a couple of mini-practice tests last time.) The low V score is something I’ll show him to explain why reading 20 minutes a day is so important (he’s a reluctant reader). I’m concerned as to whether he’ll even be eligible for the Global Humanities....

If he has a high enough composite score, MAP-R or PARRC replacement test, he will get into global humanities.
