Arlington: Extra Trash - What to Do?

We always ask a neighbor to roll our our bin if we are away. We do the same. Or you could get the neighbor a small gift for taking out the bin and returning it. If you are in Arlington there is always an older person who is out and about. They will be helpful.

I’ve lived in many places with municipal trash, and it was always several times a week. It’s particularly bad in the summer - we live in a townhouse and have to keep the cans in the garage, so it’s gross.

Re-examine your lifestyle if you are generating that much trash. We are a 6 person household, and we put trash out every two weeks or so. We generate much more recycling than we do actual trash.

+1 - family of 5. The county offers composting too (which goes in a separate bin than trash), so that should take care of a lot of food scraps. We used to live somewhere with twice per week pickup and would often skip one. No family should be filling an entire bin 2x per week.

We just trade off with neighbors (they take ours out when out of town and vice versa).

Yes put the contents of the composting buckets have to go in the green bin for sporadic pick up.
