Are you sure about the size you wore at her age? It sounds like she on track to have similar sized feet. |
10/11 is about average for someone 5’10 or so. So if you aren’t that tall yeah it’s pretty big. But not “specialty nordstrom order huge” I guess. I’m 5’8” and wear 8.5 and feel that’s pretty right on for my height. My girls feet are smaller than mine were at the same age, but my 5’11 husband is in a 9 which is really small for a guy so there you go. I will also add that this doesn’t mean that age will be wearing a 13 as an adult. Often the foot grows first and then the rest of them - so she might be gearing up for her big puberty growth spurt, a little early. |
My 9 yo wears a size 6. |
I was 4’8” in kinder, 5’3” in 5th. Don’t know k shoe size, but 5th was 6.5. I sat down on the bench behind my mom, and we ended up trying on the same shoe and switching. I only grew to 5’4” and size 8.5w, so it’s believable to me, especially since some brands run small. |
Ditto for my 10-year-old. And we're tall and both DH and I are big-footed. |
My 10 yo DD just moved up to a 9.5 women’s. She has huge feet, objectively speaking. So do I! I’m an 11.5, which is basically a 12. I’ve never understood why people think it’s embarrassing to have big feet. I am 5’10” and my feet give me a solid foundation. |
OP here... I'm 5'6" so not that tall for a caucasian woman. My 8 yo with the apparently big feet is at about 70% for height. She had been off the charts from birth to age 3 but then averaged out in height. We have female aunts/grandparents who are 5 feet tall and 6 feet tall with most being between 5'4" to 5'7" and that's what were expecting our daughters to be height wise. |
We are all different. I’m 5’9” and wear a size 9, but my parents both had small feet for their height. I was wearing my dad’s shoes by age 10 (my feet had stopped growing); I got my period at 11 and didn’t grow height-wise after that. |
Because it may not be "very big." There is a range of normal, and 5.5 kids can be in that range for an 8 year old. My 4th grade DS and I wear the same size. Women's sizes are also cut much narrower than youth/men's. Big kid shoe sizes go 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7 youth, then 7.5 men's. A 7 women's is a narrower 5.5 kids. Not that huge. |
My 8yo (fall bday). Is about 80th percentile for height, 60lbs, wears a size 2. However she has skinny feet; I myself have wide feet, 7.5-8. |
My 11.5 year old wears a kid's 3. She's also very short for her age, so I guess it's proportionate. |
7.5 year old in 90th percentile wears a 13/1. One of her BFF's is in a kids 2/3. |
A kids size 5 is the same as a woman’s size 7. So no. It isn’t unusual. |
My 10 year old boy is size 5 or 6. Different brands make it differently. So he has shoes in size 5 and 6. Most of the time, i can't find size 6 in the boys section and it's too small for the men's section.
So, most of his shoes are bought online where there are more options in size. And I hate shopping online. I prefer to go to the store but they rarely have size 6. I'm not picky with shoes and neither is my son. He just wants a comfortable pair of shoes to wear. |
Still big for an 8yo. 12yo dd wears a kids 4 8yo dd wears a kids 13/1 I’m 5’6” and wear a women’s 7. |
