If your AAP middle school site is a secondary school...

Wow! I didn't realize that it's so many. We are Robinson pyramid, and I never heard of anyone from our elementary school AAP program going to LBSS. I guess that's not the case at other elementary schools or maybe the center schools.

Many kids stay at LBSS because they "love Latin" and they don't have it at other schools.

Always assumed it was kids who didn’t want IB or wanted to stay at the same school as other kids from the AAP program at LBSS.

LBSS is a huge school so historically has been able to accept pupil placements. It is still listed as open for pupil placements in 2020-21 (Woodson and many other schools are closed to transfers).

There are nearly 600 kids in the MS AAP program at LBSS and probably about half are not at LBSS as their base for HS. Not surprising that they might decide to stay in the school they have grown comfortable with. I think this is the primary reason for the pupil placements (and somewhat built into the enrollment projections).

Are you sure there is 600 kids in MS AAP at LBSS? Or it is 600 students in MS at LBSS?

We're in the Robinson pyramid too but will opt out of AAP in middle school for that reason. We don't have the ability to pupil place to LBSS for logistics reasons for high school and don't want DD to start there in middle school and have to leave her friends all over again. Robinson needs its own AAP center, there's absolutely no excuse for not having one.

We will opt for AAP in Lake Braddock if there isn’t anything at Robinson for our kid.

This being said, we will most likely have our kid stay at LBSS too. Robinson doesn’t sound like the right for us.

OP here - Same here. We will drop AAP for 7/8 and just opt for honors instead so that we can stay at our base secondary school.

We are not at that point yet, however, and someone else asked me this question and told me that their neighbor said their kid would be allowed to stay at Lake Braddock. But I was under the impression, like others here, that was not possible. I can't really find information online about it so thought I'd ask here for experience or expertise.

If someone is getting transportation to LBSS because they were in AAP for 7/8, that would be big news.

This was occurring in the southern part of the Lee district where kids were zoned to LB for middle school AAP. High school transfers would use the bus sent to pick up the middle schoolers. May still be happening. Just another way the Lee pyramid was screwed. Most of these high school transfers had been in the AAP program.

Zoned for Robinson, but opted for LB for AAP in MS knowing we would gamble on pupil placement for HS and the logistics involved. It worked out and we were very happy. Both schools are good, so it's more what works for you and your child.

So more than 40% are in AAP? That seems like a lot.

You can get this info on any FCPS school. The AAP center is drawing from a lot of ES--many of which in this case would go to other HS (Woodson, Robinson) so it has more concentration than would a typical MS AAP center. This area needs an additional AAP center.

I really don't think there's much of a difference between Robibson MS honors classes and LB MS AAP. As PPs have pointed out, there's a significant cohort of AAP kids at Robinson. LB sends more kids to TJ, if that's a consideration.

I agree. We are zoned for LB and I have a 7th header in AAP there now. I wouldn’t send my robo kid to LB because of AAP. It isn’t a big diff from honors and my kid has to put in little effort for As. I have a couple more kids who will not do AAP here(not in aap but will go to LB) and I bet honors are similar because I can’t imagine them much easier.
