+1. Those seeking Northam’s ouster - overwhelmingly hypocritical Republicans and opportunistic young black politicians and their far-left allies - could never forge an alliance. As a result, the more tolerant middle gave him a chance to stage a comeback. |
| I respect him because he isn't a moron. Only morons resign over social media outrage. |
|
Because his record of political performance is excellent. Because he has been the most competent governor in modern memory. Because - profoundly flawed as he may be or may have been or both - his performance has been verifiably focused on the protection of civil rights. Because as flawed as his expressions of contrition have been, his efforts at remedies have been sweeping and successful. Because he has not just met but has exceeded his promises on the way in. Because at least some of the calls for his resignation have been highly questionable, self-serving, and not credible.
Do I think he’s the second coming? Absolutely no. But he has been an excellent governor. And because there is NO way anyone can credibly claim that, whatever the Northam of 35 years ago was, it is the same Northam right now. It isn’t. So, understanding the defects, the fact is that I not only support him but I respect the job he is doing, and I’m glad he’s doing it. |
Given his performance at the apology, I am sure Northam is a puppet. Someone smarter behind the scenes is pulling the strings i.e running the administration. Northam my gut be smart but he is completely inept in social situations. Yes, his administration is doing fine but I don't attribute that to him but to people around him. |
| Don't support him when he runs for re-election or higher office :p |
LOL, let me know when Northam announces his re-election campaign.
I take it you’re not from Virginia. |
| Racists have no place in the governor’s office. |
Double LOL. This probably also contributed to him not resigning. He wasn’t worried about being re-elected. |
Steve King says hi from his seat in Congress. |
That's fine but then let's stop feigning outrage at blackface and other forms of "not a big deal in the grand scheme of things" racism. |
He doesn't bother me THAT much. Yes, he was young and stupid. Who wasn't? |

The provisions for recall in Virginia law are as follows
Code § 24.2-233 states acceptable reasons for recall when it has "material adverse effect upon the conduct of the office" include:[2] Neglect of duty Misuse of office Incompetence in the performance Other acceptable reasons include: Conviction of a misdemeanor relating to drugs Conviction of a misdemeanor involving a "hate crime" Northam has not been accused of any of those. Its also not clear that the recall law even applies to Governors office. He wiil be out of office in two years. He's done a good job in office in the last two years. I suspect the complaints about him from anon people here are more from people who want to stop the Dem leglislative agenda than from people who care about moondances. |
Its so obviously something goosed by some national right wing media - not by anyone who knows Virginia at all, let alone someone who actually knows Ralph. |
Its a bad thing, but forgiveable in someone who was young at the time, surrounded by a culture that has thankfully changed, and has spent years doing GOOD things for African Americans (really specific policies to help them, BTW, not just claiming credit for the state's good economic performance. |
This +100. |
