Amanda Alexander's Departure

I thought she was good too and should have been given a shot. Yet, she barely came to work. She was largely absent at work after the new chancellor came in. She went south with her attitude quickly.

The dysfunction is so deep that the dysfunction is not seen as the problem, people who fail to cover up the dysfunction are seen as the problem.

One of the best comments I’ve ever seen on this page. Succinct. Accurate. Scary.

This is much of DC government. It is its own worst enemy.

Well sounds like she knew she was going to leave even then. Honestly, I don’t blame her. She has given years to DCPS.

Then in comes this novice who doesn’t have a clue about issues at DCPS, who mismanaged schools where he came from, and who we know now the sole reason he was picked was because he is a yes person to the mayor.

Ok, so did she actually leave? Or are we just speculating?

How do you know this with such a certitude? I am honestly curious.

Stop complaining and do something. Take back your power from the mayor. Taxation with minimal representation.

Does anyone here think having an elected school board would help fix DCPS’s problems?

No. We had one before. Things were far worse.

Have you heard him speak? Interact with people? He is inarticulate and uninterested. Stiff. No new ideas. Nothing innovative. He’s there to do the mayor’s bidding. In the end, it’s the kids who lose out from anyone really trying to better their schools.

Why would the Mayor care about DCPS when her own kid is going to go private for next 15 years of her life?

The Mayor sees public and charter school systems as vehicles for votes. In that case, she needs a pliable Chancellor who can dole out "stuff" in exchange for vote harvesting.

It's pretty simple: the Mayor will never expose her own child to DC public schools. Only suckers would do that.

Well- there has gotta be something in between a whacky school board & mayoral control. She & chancellor answer to no one.

Much truth to above.

I thought Bowser's child was like 2-3 years old. Is she in private school already?

Bowser went to a private Catholic school as a child through college. She hired Paul Kihn as DME, with two kids in private school rather than DCPS. And it's pretty clear the Maret shenanigans came with approval straight from the top.

All signs point to private school. I'll eat my hat if her daughter ends up at Shepherd ES.
