That's true. Most of the Spanish speaking people I know speak great English too. |
So what, the man doesn't speak the language? It's just an observation. Do you know how badly immigrants were treated in past generations if they did not speak the language? Here, in America. Open your eyes, people. Things are VERY different these days. And NOT for the better. How the driver treated the passenger was more offensive than her comment. It is his job to safely get people to their destinations. He was not doing his job, AND he was breaking the law of the Metro AND the law of D.C. by being on his cell phone. Let's focus on the real issue at hand, not what we want it to be. Whether or not this man likes his job, he is clearly taking advantage and taking for granted that he has a job. Isn't that why he came here? For a job? Being racist has nothing to do with it. But I really believe this driver was racist, if anyone. It is not offensive to hear someone speak another language (or any language) on the phone for extensive periods, forsaking one's job - UNLESS you are the paying customer. Do you think he would have treated the passenger that way if the passenger spoke to him in his language? WHY is that okay? |
Good grief, can you stop demonstrating your ignorance?
Assuming someone speaking another language is a recent immigrant who came for a job? That's racist. Stop assuming so much |
Stop being so naive, 11:29. So, so naive. |
You think he came here for the Starbucks'? WTF? |
Wow. You all will take anything and roll with it. Zumba probably said she doubts he understands English because she asked him to stop the bus and he clearly didn't understand her. Lay off her!! Seems like you all are the ones with the problem if you are so quick to read into things. She didn't even mention if he "appeared" foriegn or not, just that he apparently didn't understand English or how to do his job. Sheesh! Move on! |
11:48 - we said nothing about OP. We addressed the bus driver. Clearly you have a problem with the truth. |
Exactly! People and their assumptions. And saying it was racist was so overblown it's not even funny. |
The bus driver could have been racist to ignore a passenger that was not the same origin as him. That is a fairly common occurrence, which would not be an assumption. |
I took the not understanding English remark to be a comment on how he didn't stop the bus until a block past the stop, even when she was yelling "stop." Stop happens to be an English word, and he apparently didn't understand English because he didn't stop. It's a tongue in cheek remark, people.
Do we have to read racism into every comment that mentions language. |
I still think zumba's comment was rude and offensive. Sometimes she can be REALLY annoying. |
Ive never had a problem with her before but this definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. |
Sometimes we can all be really annoying. At least she has the guts to be open about who she is. If a DC BUS DRIVER can't understand the word "Metro," there is a serious language problem and Zumba has every right to vent. |
Zumba selectively writes under her name. She admits to writing under annoymous as well. That is not gutsy at all. |
she wrote anonymously ONE TIME and admitted it. There is definitely a poster on this board who has it out for her - probably because she is positive and I guess that person is jealous? I find it puzzling. Do we really need an excuse to jump down her throat? She is venting, as many of us have done on this board. |
