Fed up with parents who send sick kids to school

We've been to the pediatrician about it so many times. My dad is a type 1 diabetic so he gets sick nearly every time he visits (I do bleach every thing down in preparation and am a clean person myself). He says it's worth it though to see my kids. He seems to be the only one who gets sick, but I think that's because he has a lesser immune system.

One time my DD was on her way to a birthday party and she threw up. It wasn't unusual- she did sometimes get car sick because she's rear facing. I cleaned her up (including hand washing) and didn't think any thing about it because she seemed very healthy, no fever, and wasn't sick the morning before. She was fine the entire party and was smiling. Later that night she started violently throwing up for hours. Pretty sure we gave everyone norovirus or something at that birthday party. It was miserable. DH and I were both incredibly sick too. Totally felt terrible about that one...

Yes, you are one of those parents. Shame on you.

Yeah sorry my kid gets sick from going to school like once a month and we don’t take a week off every month.

We have jobs.

People are often contagious without symptoms. Too bad Op!

I used to until I had my own kid and realized how quickly a kid can go from totally fine to horribly sick.

Like that prevents you from being a decent human being. No one forced you to have children.

So my career takes a hit then. Thanks a-hole.

I'm curious . . . From time to time, we all get those colds that seem to last for months. Do you seriously expect kids to stay out of school for two months for a cold?

Oh, I do. My favorite case last week was the kid who came to school with Sea Bands on. She showed them to me and told me her parents had her wear them so she wouldn’t throw up at school like she did at home. I sent her right to the health room and the parent sheepishly came and picked her up an hour later. The office tried to have her come back to class to wait until her parents came to get her. Nope, not happening.

Wait until they're in middle school and high school. I have to threaten punishment for my one kid because missing just one day puts him so far behind in classwork. Also, the teachers are less likely to work with kids who miss school in HS than in middle school and elementary school.

I also have to watch him like a hawk for the signs of him getting sick or being sick because he'll hide them.

My middle son missed a week with the flu and I couldn't believe how mean his teachers were about him making up the work. The rule in our district is a kid gets the same amount of days they were out to make up the work. His AP History teacher had assigned them group work while he was out and since he didn't get assigned to a group, he had to do it all alone and the teacher still wanted it turned in on the same day as the rest of the classes work.

OP was talking about strep. Not a cold.

Plus a million. You chose to have children. They’re 100% your responsibility. Act like it.

Strep is not contagious just 12 hours after starting antibiotics. My guess is that your kid is getting sick from kids who are not yet showing symptoms.

Yes, WE have jobs, but we also have sick leave and a duty to help our kids when they are sick, and to protect other families and individuals. Especially kids and the elderly. Don't lump me in with you. I work full-time, too, and have N-E-V-E-R knowingly sent a sick kid to school or daycare. Not once in 7 years.

I feel you OP. One year one of the lovely parents brought thier very sick child to the class holiday party because they did not want her to miss it. As in the one function kids are touching everything and then eating with dirty hands. I had to help clean up and yep, was horribly sick over Christmas. I hate those parents with a vengeance. Maybe I did not get sick from that kid, but who brings a kid who was too sick for school to the school party?

My son had a friend over yesterday. They insisted the get together be at our house. About an hour in, it was clear the other kid was sick. Sick as in out his head down while eating. These friends pull this crap all the time. I so want to be done with them, but my son loves this friend.
