UChicago ED

First is likely the worst. One advantage is that as ED/EA there are no/fewer other schools that could have bad news around now.

The big disadvantage we are worried about is how much would a Chicago rejection kill enthusiasm for competitive RD applications.

If it comes, hopefully DC will be motivated to prove Chicago wrong by getting in somewhere else. And staving off complacency. It is also, for future applicants, a good reason to finish at least 2-3 RD apps at same time as the ED one, just in case.

Does anyone have any intel on timing of release of results today? Know it will be late afternoon.

That’s my point. She knows that yet believes, without a doubt, that she’ll definitely get in. Perhaps just a front to hide her anxiety from me- she does not like to show any weakness. Very insular. Even my husband, who has hardly been engaged in the process at all and can only tolerate headline news, is worried about her mental wellbeing if things do not go her way. Ugh.

To answer the PP who said it may not be over- I think the first shock is the worst, no? At least I hope so.

Well by the end of the day, she will either believe in the power of positive thinking or have learned a different lesson.

Has she applied elsewhere, or do kids who do ED wait until they hear to possibly do other apps? Do they order transcripts ahead of time for the schools they would apply to? My DC didn't do ED so I don't know how it works. He did EA but also other applications for RD.

My junior DC wants to do ED to Chicago next year. This thread is so stressful and I don't even have any skin in the game!

Good luck to you, PPs, and please report back either way. I hope your DCs get in but also wondering how well they bounce back and refocus on RD if they do not get in (or if they focus on ED2 or what)

Decisions were out at 3 and she still hasn’t called. I know she has sports but
I’m just sick with worry

NP. Some students wait until they know ED didn't work out, others don't. You can have all the portions of other apps ready to go, and submit them/order transcripts/order score reports once you know how ED shook out.

Some parents report that their kids were deflated after an ED rejection, or bummed about spending their winter break doing applications.

I think that’s more what’s making me nervous- her certainty. I wish she were more open to the possibility that it may or may not happen. Let it be over already.

Is she hooked? How can anyone not hooked be sure. Weird.

Are you for real? No college is a "sure thing" these days and most kids know it.

Op here. She is weird in the newest possible way.
No hook. Nothing - just good grades. And no news yet. I’ve called several times and texted.
I’m about to hop in my car and possibly embarrass her at school. Even if she was rejected wouldn’t she let us know???

Unless you work at Chicago, I do not believe you.
