What do you do with ‘art projects’

I throw that crap out. We have one clothesline that's about ten feet long, and we have ten or 12 clips on it - the kids can hang their best stuff up there, and that's it.

I have one large portfolio where I keep the cutest stuff and I throw the rest out. The key is to throw it out after a few days when she's forgotten about it and do it at night when she's not watching.

I put them in a box in an upstairs closet. I haven't thrown any out yet, but DD is only 3 -- we'll see what happens as she gets older.

My mom saved a few of my best "pieces" per year, plus any other super-cute stuff/sentimental mementos and put it all in a Rubbermaid tote that was stored in our basement. I didn't know it existed until the summer before I left for college. My mom and I spent and afternoon looking through all of it a few days before I left home and it's one of my favorite memories.

I am doing the same for my kids - I can't imagine throwing away everything!

(Of course, the important thing here is that it all fit into one tote...it certainly wasn't everything, or even most, of what I made as a kid. Usually I hang stuff on the fridge for a few days, and then recycle stuff when they're not home. Then they bring new stuff home and it's a rotation.)

I make a pile to “hang up later”, which gets tossed gradually over a few weeks after bedtime. We do have an entire dedicated kid art gallery wall though which gets updated occasionally. And I keep one flat portfolio for anything we want to preserve....which is fairly random selectionwise.

I have a box in the basement that I throw them into. Once or twice a year I go through it and get rid of most of it. By get rid of it, I mean seal it in an amazon box before recycling it so the kids cannot see it leaving the house.

Save nice ones (DD’s family portrait or mother’s day card) and the rest go right into the trash.

So often the joy of these kinds of crafts is in the making. The value doesn't increase if you keep it around.

We file away the best ones (kids often help decide) then throw the rest away (sometimes after taking a picture).

We have a my school days binder scrapbook. At the end of every year, kid goes through the stuff and picks out their favorite 3 pieces to keep and the rest are recycled. I use tacky stuff to hang a few of their favorites in the back of their bedroom door where they can see it when they are in bed.

Throw them out when DD is not in the room. She's almost 4. Never once has she asked about where a project went. Out of sight out of mind.

We have a "gallery" space (one wall, plus a shelf). I hang pictures and display clay creations, etc. on the shelf. When a new piece comes home, DD can decide to replace something in the gallery or let it go to the recycle bin. Having ownership of it has helped her let go of wanting to keep every little thing.

I save some on a tote in the basement, some I put up on the office door on a ribbon ( for the idea from hanging xmas cards up) and the rest go on the trash. Sometimes I save stuff for a couple of days to see if it will get mentioned again, then I trash it all on trash day.

+1

I’ve framed the really good ones too

Toss the rest!

Unless it's really good, it goes in the trash after bedtime. I've gotten caught the next morning, though, so it's important to either bury the art under other trash or take the bag out.

We put them in a box for one year. When the next year rolled around, they never cared for 99% of them.
