OP here. I may be able to add some plants - but I have a black thumb. I can really only take care of bamboo. But I might try it and see if that helps.

Use a steam vaporizer (place it out of reach of children). Those aren’t hard to clean.

Fill house with houseplants. Get a dozen fish tanks. Either will eliminate the need for a humidifier.... but are way more work.


I'd stay with the humidifier

Our entire office floor is decorated with silk or artificial plants (it's too dark for real ones) , they don't seem to make a difference at all.

We have steam humidifier on the furnace, best thing ever requires minimal cleaning
